I think it's pretty bad that none of you have considered girlcotting the film.

I mean, in this day and age, do you REALLY have to be so SEXIST all the time? And Star Trek fans at that! Didn't you learn ANYTHING from Janice Lester and her protest about 'the world of starship captains not admitting women', despite the fact women were commanding starships for at least 15 years prior to that?

The lot of you should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.

Don't let this happen again. Just don't.

I've got to go now. My Vulcan wife has been acting inappropriately, and I'm going to have her legally reclassified as chattel.

As a very strong proponent of hi-jinx, tom-foolery, and 'monkeyshines', I don't think it should ever be released.

Either that, or move the movie to Trek Movies after a year, and just rename this forum The Hi-Jinx, Tom-Foolery and Monkeyshines Forum. And I'll volunteer to remain as mod.

Truthfully, the Hi-Jinx are turning out to be alot more fun than then movie in any event.

That's it then. We have to kidnap JJ Abrams and hold him hostage no good reason. And make him post here.

I have no idea what thought process lead me here, but now I'm committed.

I bet that by March of 2009 the posts on this board will be 75% serious movie stuff and 25% tomfoolery & hi-jinx. By late-April it will be only 15% hi-jinx.

...of course it's a matter of opinion whether or not that would actually be a positive development for this forum. ;)

^ So in other words, I need to enjoy it while I can, because in 8 months I'll be back to the tedious tasks of breaking up arguments, issuing warnings, and carrying on protracted PM correspondence with sundry disgruntled posters.

Can't.

Wait.

:p

Give me sombreros ANY day.

This forum is one big lounge... :D

Its all Paramounts fault. By pushing the release date back 5 months, this forum came into being far far too early.

I haven't laughed as hard as I have in this forum, it will be sad to see it go.

It's more than a lounge. Better than a lounge. No one is forced into this group based on rank. The people who post together in here do so because they like to - not because they have X number of posts. And I don't see the group in here being cliquish either...something that seems to happen on occasion elsewhere on this board.

Plus, there IS some serious conversation going on in here, for the people who want to talk about the movie. And creativity! That is where we really have the edge! Even the Blue Warp Nacelles thread is not some mindless spam game thread - that thread is arguably the most creative on the entire BBS - including Trek Art! It takes thought to post in that thread!

Not that I'm in the least bit biased or anything...but this has turned out to be a darn good community.

:techman:

Stuff I'd Miss:

1. Sombreros!

2. The Vast Creative Abilities of the regulars in the Blue Warp Nacelles Thread...up to and including the pure genius it took to incorporate both a) sombreros; and b) almost-nekkid Jamie Bamber into the same avatar! :techman:

3. Reading any thread posted by Samuel T. Cogley. :p

4. Flirting shamelessly with a certain utterly adorable co-mod who only pretends to be a curmudgeon so that I have something to mess with him about. :adore: (look! They added a smile, just to make me even MORE nauseating! w00t!)

Notice how "arguing with sundry posters via PM" is not on the list. :guffaw:;)

Yeah...I'm all ABOUT the tom-foolery and monkeyshines, I'm afraid.

Don't worry. After - say - July of 2009 we will have said all we can about STXI and will be back to making up things to talk about while we await STXII sometime in late 2010 or 2011.

We will only truly talk about this film for the first part of 2009 before returning back to the fun job of doing whatever-it-is-you-want-to-call-what-we've-been-doing for the past year. Who knows? Maybe by next fall we will be discussing all new sorts of headwear (I believe seigezunt already suggested "The Fez").

Although I do foresee us bickering and posturing over the special features and extras on the DVD release in late 2009. Sorry to end on a downer, but this WILL happen.

Having said that, I do think we have it within ourselves to rise above talking (too) seriously about the DVD and instead turning the conversations into those about ethinic headwear, shouting vulcans, Morn, Uhura's piece, and I'm sure more than I can possibly imagine.

I love the Trek XI forum far more than any lousy "lounge" I've had access to. Hell, if it weren't for this forum, I wouldn't even be registered here. Take that, Commodore's Lounge!

it should be released to a committee of Trek fans so they can make sure it fits canon to the smallest detail. One they're all in agreement the film will be released. So...I'm voting never ever.
