Has anyone seriously considered the ramifications of this movie actually being released into theaters? Even if it's "The Dark Knight" of 2009 it will eventually run out of steam. Then release to DVD. Interest will wane. Last night I was jolted from my slumber by a full bladder, and a frightening realization: The inevitable outcome of Trek XI's eventual release is the death of this forum!!

Sure, sure, the movie will continue to be discussed in the Trek Movies forum, but does anyone seriously think that Peach Wookiee and Cardinal Biggles are going to put up with our incessant hi-jinks, tomfoolery, and monkeyshines? I doubt it. I really think we need to consider the benefits of continuing to push the release date back every few months, so as to preserve this precious domain of irrelevancy.

But, if y'all really want to see the movie, I suppose we could just keep this forum and rename it "General Snarkiness" or something. Nonetheless, I remain concerned. What is to be done?

We started discussing this film on this message board over 2 years ago. By the time the film comes out, we would have been discussing it for 3 years.

After May 2009 I foresee 6 months post-release complaining, 3 months pre-DVD release complaining, and 3 months post-DVD release complaining. That will give us only 2 years to complain about Star Trek XII.

The health of this message board is not a concern for me.

I Don't know. Don't think of it as losing a forum. Rather think of it as gaining an 'I' on the end of the forum title, Star Trek XII.

I have already advocated for pushing the film back 92 years.

I think since we are given the options of eight months and never, 92 years is a good compromise.

I've already advocated for never releasing the film in the thread about waiting 92 years. My words there speak for themselves.

I can't believe we've been talking for over two years about...nothing. We don't really know...anything.

No plot

We know most of the characters, and we have a rough idea of the timeframe but that's it.

It's like a political convention... Lots of people talking, saying nothing.

What about me? It will be released in South Africa a day before the USA. I have 24 hours less to talk about it.

I'm boycotting if the Dallas Cowboys play the Chicago Cubs for one of those Stanley Cups, the national semi-finals of lacrosse.
