Star Trek vs. Star Wars

This is something that people like myself have noticed and "true fans" who "love" the "new" "movie" refuse to admit.

"I" have "noticed" similarities between "the" new "movie" and Star "Wars" and have "been" a "lifelong" Star "Trek" fan, but I "don't" think "such" similarities "detract" from the movie. You "could" ask why Star Wars "is" such a rip off of "the" "Hidden" Fortress or the Searchers. The reason is "that" great stories "get" told "many" different "ways," but "they" are still "great" stories.

Well, I "love" the new movie and I noticed the similarities in the theras. Doesn't stop me from liking either one though.

You take air quotes to a whole new level.

Anakin: Mother dies. He cries, kills a bunch of Sandpeople and children. Pandabear dies, he cries again.
Kirk: Father dies. He gets drunk, wins in school (on a bet) and becomes the youngest Captain EVAR.

Advantage, Kirk.

 Golly gee whillikers, that's just so silly! "True fans" aren't defined by "people like yourself"!

You nor I get to decide who is or is not a true fan.

The video missed having the hero spaceship pop out of hypersp...err, warp drive, guns blazing, to help clear the way for the little one-man science vesse....um, X-wing fighter to makes it's strafing run on the Death...Narada.

so does that make Spock Luke or Luke Kirk or Han Kirk or Spock Han?

Spock Han, sounds like a customized action figure made for "china-men"

Dunno if this has already been mentioned (aside from me yesterday but you bastards apparently skipped over it).

I love both franchises. There is no reason why Trek shouldn't take what works from Star Wars; it should and it just did with this new movie. Go Abrams.

Here's what Trek has that Star Wars doesn't:

Q
Time Travel
Earth
San Francisco
Time Travel back to earth
Time travel to San Francisco
Multiple ships with the same name
Mugato
Ships that say USS on them.
A color TV show made in the 1960s with 79 episodes.
A color TV show made in the 1980s & 90s with whatever number of episodes.
Beaming up.
Beaming down.
"Beam me up, Scotty."
"I'm a doctor, not a _______!"
"Live Long and Prosper."
James Doohan
A longer time-span of loyal following (10 years longer)
Shat
Spock
Kahn
Klingons
A possible view of our own future.

Well, my impression of when I first saw "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was "It's Star Wars in China!" and I later found out several reviewers had noted a similar thing. So what? Both were great. You could do a lot worse than tell a timeless story like the first Star Wars again...
