"Star Trek: Vonnegut"
"The Soul Key"

Stardate:57567.654637219224
Old Calendar Date: Noon. 26 July 2380

Aboard the Legacy-Class U.S.S. Vonnegut, a young lab technician is doing routine archeological experiments on Hur'q, T'Kon, Promellian, Rau'Mentharr, and other artifacts as the ship is inexplicably attacked. Later, the technicians' records indicate the presence of well preserved DNA in certain burial urns including the (Shedai) meta-genome originally discovered in The Taurus Reach by the U.S.S. Constellation in 2263.

The ship's captain is sucked through a breach in the ship's hull directly over a corridor just outside her quarters and dies instantly in an (supposedly) unclaimed sector.

A few weeks pass and the ship is redeployed after the funerals, routine inquests, repairs and resupply.

  • As Gabriel Bush and many more of his old crew transfer to the Saber-Class U.S.S. Bozeman-A, Captain Morgan Bateson is recruited for the next ship of miracles in the Beta Quadrant, and assigned Kathrine Pulaski as his Chief Medical Officer.
  • After the unofficial leader of the CoE (Captain Gold) resigns and returns to be with his wife on Earth, Montgomery J. Scott requests a temporary opportunity to get out from behind a desk at The Corps of Engineers and stretch his legs as Chief Engineer, as he hadn't much opportunity to go see the rest of the 24th Century lately.
  • As luck would have it, Strategic Operations Officer Kyle Riker happens to be available as a capable Tactical Officer. Pulaski and Riker happen to be enjoying shore leave together as the call goes out for personnel and Pulaski's doing what she can to support Kyle's grieving over the loss of his grandchild in "Star Trek: Titan" (Over A Torrent Sea).

Um Riker and Troi's kid DIDN'T DIE!

Other than that good story idea so far.

  • Kyle Riker decides to request a berth aboard the Vonnegut as its Tactical Officer / Mission Specialist as they'll get within reasonable shuttle-rendezvous range of the U.S.S. Titan & his new grand-daughter 'Natasha Miana Troi-Riker'.

You do know there was already a Bozeman-A, right? It was mentioned in "Ships of the Line" (TNG). Are you getting the reference of a Saber class Bozeman from one of Decipher's old games?

Yes, the U.S.S. Bozeman-A *was* called the Saber-Class U.S.S. Roderick but the Roderick was re-labelled the Bozeman-A & Gabriel Bush (Bateson's old X.O.,) was given its Captaincy.

Yep, mentioned as a Sovereign-Class at the very very end of Diane Carey's novel "Ship Of The Line" in the section noted as "THE FUTURE BEGINS", despite being noted as a Saber-Class under the registry number NCC 75032, in Decipher Games' Star Trek title, "Perdition's Flames".

Though, Diane most likely confused the Sovereign-Class vessel as the U.S.S. Atlas that Captain Morgan Bateson was placed in command of, in the game "S.T.: Armada".
