Star Trek visits Planet Atheist...

I got as far as the beam-down and Spock's first line of dialogue. I don't need to know what the rest is about to know that it's a waste of time.

That was one of the most horrible things I ever saw.
Why are they bringing religion into Trek. For the most part they tried to keep away from that subject.

Is anyone else concerned like I am, that they seem to be making money off of this skit? The donation number plastered over the video for one. And using it as a recruiting tool for another.

Far be it for me to suggest we should ever *turn in* another fan-film for profiting off of Star Trek, but this one seems to dangerously skirt the line. Anyone else feel this way or am I getting worked up over nothing?

Guess I wasn't really watching close enough, but yeah, looks like that one is way over the line. Besides, I wouldn't exactly call this piece of garbage a fanfilm either.

That sais, they could probably claim exemption as parody if they really wanted. Sucks if they're making money off it though.

One of the comments said it best I think :
"This is a vast misinterpretation of the atheist view, and quite possibly the single most idiotic thing, I have ever seen."
And this one :
"You sir, have profained Star Trek, now you must pay."

Personally, I'm just gobsmacked by their complete ignorance about basic principles of science.

Oh wait, actually I'm not.

And an addendum to Rob's comments above, I suspect, since they are using actual footage from Star Trek, they could have their butts kicked by Paramount for using this to make profit.

If the studio ever starts coming down on "fan films" they'll pretty much go after everyone. Simply because the collection of money is an obvious motive in this one or because we find the thinking behind it to be repellent is not a reason to wish them legal trouble - unless we're prepared to accept the consequences for ourselves as well.

And therein is an excellent point; one idiot using it to make profit risks bring them down on all of us.

I'll be honest, I find their thinking perfectly good reason to deride them, though I agree stupidity is no reason to want to see them shut down. The fact that they're stupid enough to try and profit off this piece of garbage, on the other hand however, is. Even so, I can't say I'm the sort to report them, I'm just not that vindictive.

Besides, no one with half a brain cell would take these twits seriously anyway. :)

I am a Christian and I could not make it through 3 min. I have all ways wondered why some Christians hate scientists so much.
As for turning this piece of trash in for trying to make money the one thing I will say is they broke the rules. Paramount has always said that as long as you did not try and make a profit on the project they wont go after you. I am sure someone at there legal department keeps their eyes out for such things and will catch up to them some day.
Besides the days of fan films flying under the radar are over with all the press New Voyages has gotten lately.

I'm just astounded at the craptastic performance -- I *loved* the Kirk and Spock bouncing around in place right after they beamed down. Made me all dizzy.

Yeesh.
