Star Trek 'VII' promotional mug

saw this on twitter and it appears to be a genuine Paramount mug from '92 around the same time as those Trek magic heat mug(https://i.ebayimg.com/thumbs/images/g/DrUAAOSwuxFYwObz/s-l225.jpg).
so think this must be a Trek VI promo item as its just after VI release (maybe for the VHS release?) and VI was a box office success/well received (esp coming after V) so maybe Paramount was half jokingly promoting VII

That's kinda cheesy looking.

I was disappointed at the time that Generations wasn't titled Star Trek VII: Generations, but putting a numeral in the title never appears to have been considered for the film. The working title, which appears on the design artwork, was the rather boring "Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Movie."

The "W" character is wonky. It never looked like that on the Wrath of Khan poster.

I've actually got a very nice proper Generations mug. Despite in theory being a bit dull (the film logo on a blue background), it actually looks pretty snazzy.

Yeah, I would have preferred Star Trek VII: The Next Generation, as I am a TAD O.C.D. and I like things that are uniform and look nice on a shelf. So, when I gaze at it and it goes from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country to Star Trek Generations, it stresses me out a little
