Star Trek VI shapeshifter what the hell..

Garak007

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
No is not a question about there being a shapeshifter on Star Trek VI that is different to the ones we see on DS9 but what is the deal with the little girl scene?

Why would a little girl ever be on a mining prison planet? Even the Klingons I believe would stoop that low having a little girl as pet and if the shapeshifter would infiltrate the mining complex why would she take that form of a girl its makes no since and it took Kirk a long enough time to realise that this was bull****

I thought she changed into a little girl so that she would be small enough to escape the shackles the Klingons put on her big monster form..

Never thought of that. But why a little girl she could of turned into something else. Like a mouse or big f*** off animal and why did she had to escape as she was conspiring with the Klingons?

To get Kirk outside where he could be discreetly murdered?

Na not escape with Kirk and McCoy, but to be in shackels in the first place?

I think Chameloids are established (albeit in non-canon) to only be able to transform between humanoid forms. Not that they crop up very often.

1) It's more convincing if she appears to be a fellow prisoner.
2) I'm pretty sure she wasn't going to -not- be a prisoner until she fulfilled the terms of the deal. Of course, the Klingons planned to kill her anyway. No witnesses.

Exactly, and to keep Kirk thinking she was young and innocent (and female). Martia had no intention of being seen by the Klingons in her "defenseless little girl" guise.

I think the OP is overthinking this scene. The shape shifter was simply assuming a shape that would be small enough to slip out of the shackles (and out of view of the prison guards). End of story.

Not to mention most responders are forgetting that fact, specifically that at no point do the guards see Martia in the little girl shape.

This is a silly thread.

Yes...she only transformed into the little girl so she could slip her little mits out of the handcuffs.

You must have started watching the movie only at this point and on subsequent viewings as well apparently...:guffaw:

I thought it was interesting that the shapeshifter was able to change its relative size. If it can make itself "smaller" like a young girl, how big could it make itself?

Like, Shaq big? :D

Who knows what Marta REALLY looked like -- she should have been an oozing puddle of slime for all we know...

:guffaw:

She was only a little girl for a few seconds and even if the Klingons saw her, they'd probably let her go since they were setting them up anyway. There's nothing saying the guards over there weren't in the know.

Was Martia a founder? Like Odo, but who learned to shape shift faster than he ever could. The Founder sent many changlings out into the galaxy, maybe when they threw this particular piece of spagetti, Klingon space is where she stuck.
