Star Trek V: Zombie Apocalypse!

Just thinking about how there was never a Trek movie featuring a virus/pandemic (unless you count FC) and how if instead of religious zealot stuff Shatner had wanted to do a virus pandemic movie so have started to imagine a 1989 PG13 Star Trek zombie movie (using TFF plot beats) going back to the action/seriousness of II/III after the feel good yuks of IV but with added horror and influenced by audience pleasing 80s non stop action films like Rambo, Aliens, Terminator etc (which would offer much more 'running and jumping' for Shatners directorial debut :))

Pre title sequence: Nimbus III Planet of Galactic Peace... outbreak scene.. then credits and the same Yosemite/mountain climb/campfire scenes

Then the Klingons/Klaa and screaming satellite.. then K/S/B get taken up to malfunctioning Enterprise and Admiral Harve tells Kirk of something strange going down at Nimbus III ..warp over there...shuttle down where they encounter.. zombies! (the raging 28 Days/WWZ type)..who destroy the shuttle. so they have to lockdown in Paradise City until the Ent can send another shuttle down (while battling the Klingons!)

Then after mucho battles they get back to the ship as Paradise City is overrun (picturing zombies falling from the shuttle as it ascends into space) and then the enterprise is overrun! (cue FC action stuff)

eventually they get Enterprise under control (think the end of Aliens airlock blowout) and get to a Romulan outpost (Trona Peaks) where the virus originated...ends with Kirk vs hoards of romulan zombies! (not gargoyles/rockmen/floaty godhead)..all chasing him up the mountain gets to top turns around phaser in each hand blasting away.. but its all over for Jim and he knows it... then the BOP arrives opens fire on zombies.. 'so its me you want you Klingon bastards!' Kirk screams and opens fire on the BOP!.. then Kirk is beamed up..'spock!'... then they manage to stop the pandemic.

Why is there such a dangerous lab on the Planet of Galactic Peace, would seem counter-intuitive.

I'd cut all the shore leave stuff, it was really rather hokey. Given all Kirk went through in the last couple of films and finally getting his captaincy back (officially) then it would be better to start out on the E-A whilst they're on assignment. If you want to give him an emotional journey to go through, then why not have it the anniversary of David's death, so he can lament over the son he lost (though this might take away from his journey in TUC). So they're already out in the region when they get the call ordering them to cross the Neutral Zone.

With a plot such as zombie outbreak, it would also be an idea to introduce a security chief, in the same vein as Decker/Saavik, a younger officer now working closely with living legends--they could also do a Tasha and be killed off during the events of the film, once we've gotten to know them a little.

It could also be interesting to subvert expectations, so whilst the film hints that its the Klingons or Romulans behind it, there's actually another party at work, trying to stop peace between the three major powers and keep them at each others throats for their own benefit. Whilst up in space, there is a three way battle raging, between the E-A (with Sulu showing his skills), the Klingons and the Romulans (so we can see one of their Movie-Era ships). Whilst the recovery shuttle is shot down by the masterminds behind the outbreak.

Throughout the film, the trio would need to be split up to some degree, as McCoy would be of greater use trying to find a cure. Spock could remain with him, commanding their forces in Paradise to hold the city from the hordes, helping with research when time allows. Leaving Kirk to go off and be heroic, facing the prospect of dying alone.

Nice ideas :)

The lab wouldn't be on Nimbus III its just the romulan ambassador carrying the virus succumbs to it there and infects the rest

I was ok with Yosemite stuff purely because I liked the way it was different for the Trek films and really opened it up instead of soundstages.. plus id want Kirks end mountain climb from the zombie hoards to mirror the opening climb and the fear of dying alone

I'd go with Chekov as security chief but actually I think id bring back Saavik (Robin Curtis) for the movie and have her kick some zombie ass like Treks Ripley/80s action heroine in head bandana, ripped shirt, phaser rifle (in fact much of what we saw in First Contact would be done early here with the zombies taking over the Enterprise).

Yes that's an interesting idea in that it'd be another 3rd party attempting to start a war between the Federation, Klingons, Romulans (tying in with the opening Nimbus Planet of Galactic Peace stuff).. and yes absolutely see the Romulan movie era ships

Yes to splitting the big 3 up more than was in TFF (yes Spock & Bones would be working on a cure as in several eps of TOS)
