Star Trek: TNG Coming to Scifi?

well, they're starting off with First Contact today, then Naked Now later in the evening.

Lookin' forward to an evening of TNG fan favorites beginning in just a few minutes on SciFiHD :D

Just got done watching "The Naked Now". Boy, is that dated. The whole thing has a Space: 1999 look. The special effects look like an after school special. The dialogue, the costumes, everything... really bad.

Now I'm watching "The Big Goodbye". Reminds me why I always hated holodeck centered episodes. It drives me crazy that a hologram kisses Picard and then when he leaves the holodeck the lipstick is still on his face.

Really? I don't think so at all, Naked Now isn't a very good episode, but the FX still hold up today. I still think the lighting and "look" of the show in season 1 was better than later seasons.

In Big Goodbye they hadn't settled on the holodeck's abilities just yet. Its no more annoying than hearing Starfleet called everything from UESPA to Star Service early in TOS.

Will we see HD maybe? I get SciFi's HD version.

Since TNG wasn't done with HD in mind, it's a good question as to what we'll see.

TOS, when shown in HD, failed to pass the test due to the special effects and such not being "HD worthy". That's why they had to be all redone, which led to what's now called "TOSR" ("R" meaning "remastered").

TNG has the same type of problem. The filmed portions with the actors on the sets may come across good, but the special effects and other stuff (such as ships in space) may fail, just as happened with TOS.

That's why there's been talk of TNG getting the "R" upgrade too. Hasn't happened yet, tho'. (As far as we know.)

I watched it on Sci-Fi HD and even though it was't filmed or converted to HD it still looks better than on the regular Sci-Fi channel. Obviously a "remastering" to upgrade the res of the FX is preferable, but it still looks damn good.
