Good Evening, Trekkers, Trekkies, Treknecks, and Conversationalists, all across the fruited plain!:techman:

And by the way...HAPPY ELECTION DAY '08!!!

May the best man win....

Okay. Now that that's outta the way....

Here's a tale set some time in the TNG-Relaunch era. Frankly, I have no idea exactly when (I wrote this thing before I ever read any of those books). But that's kinda irrelevent. I kinda made a concious effort to make the "setting" as vague as possible.

Enjoy!

Star Trek TNG:
B-4 & After
Scenes 1 & 2

B-4 did not understand.

Upon opening his eyes, the first thing he had noticed was that he was in a room.

With lights.

12.3 seconds later, he noticed that most of the room was above him.

He seemed to be lying on the floor, but he appeared to be right side up.

He also noticed that he was not alone. There was someone near a wall, standing straight and not moving.

B-4 saw that the someone was without a head.

He did not understand. So he asked the Headless Someone, “Why do you have no head?”

The Headless Someone did not answer, still not moving.

It took B-4 17.8 minutes before he understood: He was the head. And the Headless Someone was his body.

As the Tall Man with the Furry Face would say, he had somehow gotten his block knocked off.

He did not know how he knew what the Tall Man with the Furry Face would say, but at the moment, that was irrelevant.

“It would seem that we have been separated,” he said to his body, “so we must come back together now.”

No response.

“Please walk to me.”

The body began to move. It began to walk forward –then left, then right.

“Over here.”

The body paused, turning its back to B-4.

“Follow my voice.”

The body walked away from him.

“Follow my voice.”

The body continued walking away. B-4 decided to try something different.

“Go to the left.”

The body went right.

“I did not say right. Why are you going right?”

The body said nothing –as it collided into a wall.

B-4 frowned as the body fell to the floor.

After a moment’s reflection, he said the one thing that came to his mind.

“I do not understand.”

* * *

Geordi La Forge understood perfectly well. And he did not enjoy it.

As he watched B-4’s ridiculous antics, he felt a twinge of pain.

The android was staring at his fallen body, with that familiar jitter of his. Under most circumstances, the situation would have been laughable. But it was not a joke. And Geordi certainly did not feel like laughing.

Not even when B-4 asked his body, “You appear to have fallen. Can you get up?”

“Looks like someone lost his head.”

Geordi turned around to find the last person he expected to see standing at the lab doorway.

“Leah! What’s a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?”

Dr. Leah Brahms flashed a smile as she sat down beside him. “I was in the neighborhood, and I heard you were here… so I thought I’d drop in and say hello.”

Geordi returned the grin. “Well, let me just say that if you’re not a sight for sore eyes, I don’t know what is….”

Leah stared at the viewscreen, which showed what was happening in B-4’s compartment. “What are we watching, exactly?”

Geordi felt his smile disappear. “Uh… call it an experiment.”

Leah frowned. “Indeed.”

“Yeah –it’s to see how long it takes for him to figure out this kind of situation. Kind of like…” Geordi sighed as his thoughts synchronized with exactly what he was saying, “…like a mouse in a labyrinth.”

Leah raised an eyebrow. “I was under the impression he was a lot smarter than this –to say the least….”

Geordi stared at her blankly. “‘Smart’? Leah… exactly who do you think is in that cubicle?”

“I… thought it was your friend Data.”

Geordi stared at his feet, sighing. “No. That’s his…little brother. Data… is dead.”

Leah said nothing.

“I’m surprised no one told you,” Geordi remarked as he turned his attention back to the screen. B-4 was faring little better. He was now asking the body –politely –to get up.

“So… what is he supposed to do?”

Geordi finally tore his eyes away from the android as he faced his fellow engineer. “Well you see, we reprogrammed his body to respond to voice commands –but it does the exact opposite of what you instruct it to do. B-4 –that’s his name –will only solve this puzzle if he is able to figure that out… and direct his body not to come to him, not to pick him up, and so on.”

Leah nodded. “Except… he doesn’t seem to have figured that out just yet.”

Geordi leaned back in his chair, exhausted. “Exactly –I have spent the better part of a half hour watching him try to ‘pull himself together’, as it were, and he hasn’t even considered the solution.” He paused… and smiled.

Leah gave him a questioning look.

“Oh, I was just remembering when Commander Riker and I did this to Data as a little prank. Do you know how long it took him to figure this out?”

Leah shook her head no.

“Four point three minutes.”

Leah looked at the screen. “Am I to understand that…‘B-4’… is less capable than his brother?”

Geordi leaned forward. “That’s just it! Shortly after we found him, Data and I downloaded all his capabilities and memories to B-4.” He shook his head. “No luck. Only recently has he even started to access them… and that was only once.”

Leah shrugged. “Well, that’s a start.”

“Yeah, well, all he did was sing…”

Leah smiled as she placed a hand on his shoulder. “Give him some time, Geordi. He’ll grow.”

Geordi returned the smile, halfheartedly. “I wish I could be that certain.”

Leah stood up. “Well, I have some business to attend to. Let me know how it all turns out?”

“Sure.” Geordi paused, and then asked, “What do you say to dinner tonight –say, 1900 hours?”

Leah nodded as she smiled again. “I’d like that. Where did you have in mind?”

Geordi thought for a moment. “Well… there’s a certain café down the street….” A grin played on his face. “It’s Italian. I…don’t know if you like that, but…”

She chuckled at that. “1900 –I’ll be there.”

As she left, Geordi turned back to the screen –and his cheerful mood vanished. B-4’s was now on his nose, apparently after trying to move his head closer to the body. The head rolled to the side as he once again said his signature line.

“I do not—”

Okay, that’s enough!” Geordi hit his console. “Computer: open the darned cubicle.”

B-4 & After
Scenes 3 & 4

Dr. Leah Brahms sat at the table, staring at the words on her padd. A technical journal –it was better than nothing, and she was eager to get some paperwork done early.

The manual was just showing promise of becoming interesting when she heard someone approach. Leah kept her eyes on the screen as she fought to keep from smiling. “You’re late.”

Geordi grinned. “It only occurred to me a short while ago to bring a little…something.”

Leah looked up to see in La Forge’s hand a bottle of… of…

“What on earth is that?”

“A specialty drink, courtesy of none other than Captain Montgomery Scott –a ‘wee gift from one engineer to another’, as he said.” Geordi beamed as he handed the bottle to her.

Leah frowned at the label. “‘Engine Room Hooch’…? Never heard of it.”

“As well you shouldn’t.” Geordi dropped his voice to a near whisper. “It’s illegal as Romulan Ale.”

Leah looked at him in shock. “And this was given to you by whom?”

“A man who knows his stuff. He bragged to me that only the best engineers know how to brew it –which is why he gave the recipe to me, not that I ever intend to use it….”

“Uh… did he say why it was illegal, exactly?”

“Well, I seem to recall something about it being cooked by nothing less than a warp core.”

Her eyes wide, Leah stared at the bottle. “I suppose we can assume, then, that it has a bite!”

Geordi nodded. “A big bite.”

A heavyset waiter with a dark moustache came by the table. Upon seeing the bottle, he remarked, “Well-a sir, I can believe it if you say-a… that you won’t need a drink….”

Geordi smirked and shook his head. “Not tonight. But, we would like a glass and a mug, if you please.”

The waiter let out a belly laugh. “Right away-a!” he said as he left for the kitchen.

* * *

B-4 was in a larger room, surrounded by people. But where was the One with the Pretty Eyes? The android was used to him being here when he –B-4 –was on line.

He did not understand. So he asked one of the people, “Where is the One with the Pretty Eyes?”

The man stared at him for 20.4 seconds. It was clear he did not understand.

B-4 tried again. “…the One with the Pretty Eyes…that spin?”

After a hesitation of 2.7 seconds more, the man snapped his fingers. “Commander La Forge?” he asked, with a slightly fancy voice.

B-4 analyzed the name. He recalled his brother using the designation for the One with the Pretty Eyes. He noted this for future reference. “Yes,” he answered.

The Man with the Fancy Voice nodded. “I saw him leave some time ago. He said he was going to have dinner with Dr. Brahms.”

B-4 frowned. “What is ‘dinner’?”

“I…believe it would take to long to explain.”

B-4 thought for 14.5 seconds. It had been some time since he was anywhere other than here. He was becoming curious about what was outside.

Also, he was used to the presence of… ‘Commander La Forge’.

“Can you take me to him?”

The Man with the Fancy Voice began to fidget. “Well, I’m not sure it would be a good idea.”

“Why?”

“Because he gave the impression he and the doctor were to be alone.”

“Why?”

The man sighed. “That would take…too long to explain.”

B-4 considered this. “I do not understand.”

Another good section. You're really doing well at capturing the simplistic nature of B-4's thoughts. I especially found it ironic--and a little humorous--at the part where B-4 is looking at the other guy's confusion and concludes "it was clear he did not understand."

Interesting take on B-4. I like the highlighting of his thought processes-The One with the Pretty Eyes:guffaw: I was thinking of Dr. Brahms!

Thanks for the comments so far, y'all!:techman:

Star Trek TNG:
B-4 & After
Scenes 5 & 6

“…so he looks directly at Riker, right? And he asks…” he fought to keep from chuckling, “‘Why does the Tall Man have a furry face?”

As he and Leah burst into laughter, Geordi was already feeling a lot better. And it wasn’t just the fungilli. Or the hooch.

But the smile fell from his face as B-4 entered the restaurant –with a crestfallen Reginald Barclay in tow.

Leah raised an eyebrow in amusement. “Company?”

Geordi stared hard at Barclay. “Reg…?

“I-I’m truly sorry sir. He insisted on my taking him to you and he wouldn’t stop.”

Leah turned to the man. “Well, if you were worried about his pestering, why didn’t you deactivate him?”

Geordi cleared his throat in discomfort. “Uh, it’s probably because I ordered him to keep him on until I take over. Diagnostics and all that.” He nodded at Barclay. “Thanks, Reg. I’ll handle it from here. Take a nap.”

Barclay nodded in relief, and rushed out.

Geordi turned to B-4. “Did you need me for something?”

The android frowned. “I do not know.”

Leah’s hand shot to her mouth.

Geordi frowned. “Let me get this straight. Are you saying… you don’t know why you came here?”

“No. I am not.”

“Then… what are you saying?”

“I am saying that I do not know if I need you for something.”

The chuckle that Leah was trying to stifle was let out.

B-4 turned to her. “Are you experiencing a malfunction?”

She just laughed all the more.

Geordi just stared at the android. “So… what is your reason for coming?”

“I –wanted to see you.”

“Why?”

“I do not know. I wanted to see you.”

Leah shook her head in amusement. “Uh, Geordi…”

He sighed, and turned to her. “Yeah?”

“If I didn’t know better, I’d say he’s imprinting on you.”

Geordi slumped in his chair. “Great. Just great.”

B-4 frowned as he stared at Dr. Brahms. “Why is your hair of significant length?”

Leah shrugged. “I prefer it this way.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know. Possibly… because my husband liked it.”

“What is a ‘husband’?”

Geordi felt a smile tug at his face. Perhaps he could enjoy this after all. “Um, it means…a male spouse –a mate.”

B-4 hesitated, as if processing the information. “I…understand.”

Geordi whistled. “Well –it’s about time you understood something.”

The android turned back to Leah. “Who is your…‘husband’?”

She sighed as she leaned back in her chair. “His name was Mikel. He died some years ago.”

“Why?”

Geordi sobered at this. He remembered the Genesis Wave incident –the incident which had cost countless lives –including Leah’s husband. Ironic, wasn’t it? He had often wondered what might have been if only she hadn’t been married. And now that her husband was dead...

Be careful what you wish for, he had thought to himself, over and over again, since the tragedy. You just might get it.

Brahms looked down. “I’d rather not talk about it.”

“Why…?”

When Leah didn’t answer, Geordi did for her. “Well you see, B-4, when someone close to us…dies…we don’t want to talk about it, for fear that it will bring back the pain.”

B-4 analyzed this. “Your husband was close to you?”

Leah frowned. “Not as well as I had wished, but…yes. He was.”

The waiter came back. “Will the albino like-a something?”

Geordi and Leah looked at B-4, who, not surprisingly, did not understand.

“He means,” Leah explained, “do you want to eat something?”

B-4 frowned. “I do not know.”

Geordi turned to the waiter. “He doesn’t eat. He’s an android.”

“Ah. Then would you like a dessert-a?”

Leah shook her head. “No thank you. I’m full.”

“In that case,” Geordi asked, “can we have the rest to go?”

The waiter smiled. “Of course.”

* * *

As the three of them headed back to the lab, B-4 turned to Leah. “I do not understand.”

“Understand what?” she asked with a smile.

“What is meant by ‘close’?”

She hesitated. Now how on earth do you answer something like that? “Um… well basically, it means…that you are familiar with someone in a way that…makes you want to spend time with them. It means that you are…friends with that person.”

“‘Friends’… is that similar to…‘husband’?”

Geordi chuckled as he turned to the two of them. “Oh, no…. friends are something entirely different.”

“I do not—”

“Well let me put it this way,” Brahms offered. “A husband, by nature, is the mate of a female. He has to be a man, who is bonded to a girl in a certain way.”

B-4 analyzed this.

Geordi picked up where Leah left off. “Now friends, on the other hand, can be any combination –male-male, male-female, or female-female. But…their ‘bond’ is of a completely different kind.”

“In –what way?”

“Well for one thing,” Leah answered, “The bonds of friends are a bit less… intimate.”

“I…think I understand.”

The three walked in silence for a few minutes. Then B-4 spoke.

“Are you…‘close’…to Commander LaForge?”

Leah smiled at this, and she could see that Geordi was doing so too. “I should think so.”

“Why have the sides of your face turned red?”

Oh great. Don’t tell me I’m blushing. “Ah, well, I –don’t know what you’re talking about,” she replied with a nervous smile.

Before the android could respond, Geordi interrupted. “All right, B-4. It’s time we get you back to the lab.”

B-4 stared at Leah. “What is your name?”

Her smile widened into a grin. “Leah Brahms.”

“But, uh…” Geordi added dryly, “You’d better call her Dr. Brahms –in public, at least.”

“Why?”

Geordi rolled his eyes in exasperation.

Leah chuckled. “It’s a matter of… politeness, B-4.”

“What is ‘politeness’?” B-4 analyzed for a moment, and also asked, “What is ‘public’?”

“That’s enough ‘understanding’ for tonight, mister.” Geordi replied as he and the android re-entered the lab.

Leah heard B-4’s last remark. “I do not understand.”

She shook her head and smiled as she returned to her apartment.

Star Trek TNG:
B-4 & After
Scenes 7-9

The next morning, Geordi sat down at breakfast. B-4 sat with him, trying to comprehend the food.

“Uh… it’s called eggs. You use that,” he pointed to the fork near B-4’s plate, “like this….” He poked his own eggs and placed them in his mouth.

B-4 imitated Geordi’s moves precisely. Well, Geordi mused, at least he didn’t study the darned fork....

Upon swallowing, B-4 asked, “What is the purpose of eggs?”

“It’s… a kind of food –uh, sustenance. We consume it for nourishment.”

“Why?”

“Because we need the nutrients it’s got.”

“What are nutrients?”

“Anything that helps us become more healthy.”

“What is ‘healthy’?”

Geordi sighed and counted to ten in his head. “It means… functioning properly.”

B-4 analyzed this.

Geordi noticed that the android had been doing that a lot lately. He had also ‘understood’ more than he used to.

Was it possible… that he was growing? Could the abilities downloaded from Data be finally taking effect?

His thoughts were interrupted when Leah entered the lab. “Anything interesting happening lately?” she asked.

B-4 turned to her. “I am…obtaining ‘nutrients’ to function properly.”

Leah raised an eyebrow at this.

Geordi explained, “Uh, he saw me eating, and wanted to try it out himself.”

Leah nodded in understanding as she sat down beside them. “How about you?” she asked Geordi.

“Other than breakfast… not really.”

Leah turned to the android. “B-4, would you mind if Commander LaForge and I… be alone for a while?”

“Why?”

She smiled. “Because I would like it…very much.”

B-4 shook his head. “I do not mind.”

As the android left, Geordi stared at her in amazement. “How did you do that?”

Leah hesitated, and Geordi was sure he saw a hint of sadness in her eyes. “From what I’ve seen, he’s…like a child, Geordi. I thought it would help to answer him as such.”

Geordi nodded. After a moment, he said, “By the way, I…apologize if he cut our dinner short.”

“It couldn’t be helped.” Leah looked as if she was going to say something else, but decided against it.

An awkward silence followed, one that was finally broken by the one thing Geordi least expected.

“Picard to Commander LaForge.”

Geordi’s eyes widened as he tapped his combadge. “LaForge here.”

“Geordi, we appear to have a problem in Engineering, and we require your assistance.”

“Anything serious, Captain?”

“We’re can’t be certain as of yet.”

“Don’t worry, sir. I’ll be there in a jiffy. LaForge out.” Geordi sighed as he stood up from the table. “I’ll probably be back by tonight.”

“Do you think I could help?”

“Ah, it’s probably nothing. Still…” he hesitated, “I have a strange feeling B-4 will start begging to follow me again….”

Leah smiled as she got out of her chair. “Then why don’t I take over for a while?”

“You mean it?”

“Why not?”

“Leah… I love you!”

“So I gathered.”

The two burst into laughter. Finally, Geordi tapped his combadge. “LaForge to Enterprise: one to beam up.”

As the transporter beam took hold, Geordi had one thought in his mind.

I sure hope this was a good idea....

* * *

B-4 did not understand.

So Dr. Brahms explained to him, “He has to do something somewhere else, so he won’t be here today.”

B-4 analyzed this. “I still do not understand.”

Dr. Brahms responded, “Well, what would you to do right now?”

“I would like to go to Commander LaForge.”

“Sorry, but we can’t.”

“Why?”

“Because he’s busy.”

“Why?”

“Look, uh, is there anything else you would like to do?”

“I do not know.” After 5.3 seconds, he said, “I do know.”

“Really?” Dr. Brahms asked. “What?”

“I would like to see what is outside.”

Dr. Brahms stood up and turned to the Man with the Fancy Voice. “Mr. Barclay?”

The Ma— Mr. Barclay –straitened up. “Uh, yes, Doctor?”

“Would it be alright if I take B-4 to the parkland nearby?”

“Oh –of course not, Doctor. We weren’t scheduling anything, so… of course you can.”

Dr. Brahms smiled, and turned to B-4. “Well than, let’s go.”

B-4 stood up, but he did not understand. “Dr. Brahms?”

“Hmm?”

“What is a ‘parkland’?”

* * *

This is a ‘parkland’.”

Leah smiled as she saw B-4’s mouth form an “o”, his head jittering. The park outside the Institute Lab was almost circular, with a small blue lake in the middle. Trees were placed throughout the area, and benches were located at all the right places.

The park was neatly surrounded by merchants, selling all sorts of interesting things, not the least of which was a particular vendor selling deerstalker caps and magnifying glasses (among other things).

B-4, for the moment, seemed more interested in a family of ducks that was heading for the lake. “Why do the smaller birds look alike?”

“Well,” Leah answered as she sat down on a bench, “They were all born around the same day.”

As he sat down beside her, the android asked, “Why are they following the larger bird?”

“She’s their mother. The ‘little birds’ –they’re called ducklings –are all siblings.” At B-4’s confused expression, she explained, “Brothers and sisters.”

“Are brothers identical to sisters?”

“Not quite. Brothers are male –sisters are female.”

B-4 analyzed this. “My brother…was a male.”

“Ah… I suppose….”

Silence followed. Finally, the android asked, “Did you know my brother?”

Leah frowned. “Not really….” She hesitated for a bit, and then a thought occurred to her. “You know… I understand that Commander LaForge knew Data better than anyone else. Perhaps when he comes back, you can ask him about your brother.”

B-4 analyzed this.

Leah watched the ducks as they finally reached the lake. She had often wondered what it would be like to have children of her own. Granted, it would complicate her career life, but still….

If only…

If only what? If only Mikel didn’t die? I can’t start thinking like that –I’ll go insane.

No. Her husband was dead. She had no children. She would have to live with that.

Well… there was always Geordi. After all—

Her thoughts were interrupted when she turned to face B-4.

He was gone.

* * *

Very good to see some sort of progress on B-4's part. :)

I like this, that he's not becoming a Data clone--that would be the cheap way out. Hopefully he'll develop his own personality as he grows, however much he can manage, anyway.

Okay. And now...the conclusion.

Star Trek TNG:
B-4 & After
Scenes 10-12

Geordi was felling pretty good about himself. There had been a problem with one of the main relays in Main Engineering, but it was only half an hour before he succeeded in re-initializing the dynamic stabilization matrix. He was able to go back down to the Institute without any further delays –for the time being, at least.

Now where was Leah –and B-4?

“Reg?”

“Yes, Commander, sir?” Barclay responded.

Geordi fought to keep from rolling his eyes. He’s still jittery as ever, after all these years. “You wouldn’t happen to know where Dr. Brahms and B-4 went, would you?”

“She, uh, said she was going to the park with him, sir.”

“Thanks.”

“Oh, don’t mention it, sir.”

* * *

“…and when I turned back to him, he was gone.”

Dr. Leah Brahms, formerly of Utopia Planetia, had faced countless problems in her distinguished career. One would at least think that she could keep track of an android.

She got the feeling that it would take a long time to live this down.

To his credit, Geordi was completely calm. “Well, I wouldn’t worry. He couldn’t have gotten that far off. The question is…where?”

Leah frowned. “Well…if I were an android with the mind of a child…”

It looked as if something had clicked in Geordi’s mind. “…with the memories of Data downloaded in my brain just waiting to surface…where would I be?”

He stared at the deerstalker-cap store for a few minutes. “I think I just might know….”

Geordi rushed to the shop with Leah close behind. She had no idea what he was up to, but she had learned long ago to never doubt him for long.

They entered –and stopped short.

B-4 was there, all right, and he was wearing not only a deerstalker (with a visor on both the front and back), but a grey plaid frock coat. If not for his skin and eyes, he would have been a dead ringer for Sherlock Holmes.

Leah tore her gaze from the android to notice that Geordi’s mouth was hanging wide open. “Uh, B-4…” he managed to say, “What exactly…are you doing?”

“Merely throwing myself into the part, Watson,” B-4 declared –with a perfect British accent.

Leah’s hand reached for her mouth as the android did a double take at his own voice.

After analyzing, B-4 declared –in his normal voice, “I do not know…what I am doing.”

Leah grinned at Geordi. “How did you know?”

Still staring at B-4, he answered, “I…noticed that he seemed to be…growing lately, so I took a… an educated guess.”

“I see. And… just what does Sherlock Holmes have to do with his growth?”

Geordi turned to face her. “Leah… Sherlock Holmes…was Data’s hero.”

B-4 looked down at his garb. “I do not understand.”

A smile came to Leah’s face. “Well… I do.”

* * *

Geordi and Leah sat once again at a table in the Italian restaurant. Only this time, B-4 was sitting down with them, sampling a plate of fettuccini. He seemed completely occupied with a noodle on his fork.

Geordi stared at the android for a while. With the “Holmes garb” incident fresh in his mind, a new ray of hope entered his thoughts.

For a long time, he had all but convinced himself that B-4’s remembrance of a song that Data sung had only been a fluke –a minor event that would probably never repeat itself.

Yet… as of now, the possibility had arisen once again –would B-4 continue to grow?

B-4 slowly set down his fork, looking at Geordi. “Dr. Brahms said…” and he did a perfect imitation of Leah’s voice, “‘I understand that Commander LaForge knew Data better than anyone else.’”

Leah’s eyes grew wide at the mimicry.

Geordi simply nodded. “You could say that.”

“What…was my brother like?”

Geordi sighed. “Well…he was a very good person. He…constantly put other people’s needs before his own…. He was a very ‘by-the-book’ officer, following orders to the letter.”

He paused before continuing. “But I think his greatest trait was…his desire to become more…human. He often tried to understand the many things that make us who we are. He listened to the jokes I told him, and tried to come up with his own –unsuccessfully.

"Still, despite his many oddities, I think that…somehow…he became almost human after all."

B-4 analyzed this. Geordi turned to Leah. The two shared an unspoken thought. Would what Geordi said follow through with B-4? Would all he had seemed to learn in the past few days...resonate with him?

Geordi certainly hoped so.

Finally...B-4 spoke. “My brother was…close to you.”

The two engineers turned to him. Geordi nodded. “Yes….”

“My brother was…your friend.”

A tear came to Geordi's eye. When he could bring himself to speak, it was barely above a whisper. "Yes...."

He turned to Leah. She gave him a warm, reassuring smile. He returned it...as B-4 concluded.

“I…understand.”

B-4’s journey is only beginning....

Very well done...a moving, hopeful ending--but without moving too far too fast. I'm very glad you started posting your stories! :)

Absolutely darling story! I, also, really like that B-4 wasn't destined to become a Data-clone, and was developing his own personality and knowledge, even if he did have his brother's memories. I was also really touched by him wanting to know more about his brother. Great stuff!

Yes, el Rushbo, this was a very cool story. I didn't want to read it at first because I didn't care for the character in Nemesis. But you have done a good job here!!!

Rob

Absolutely superb! I never cared for B-4 (or Nemesis) either, but this was a wonderful take on his development. And that last bit nearly brought a tear to my eye. ;)

You are doing really well with the interactions between Geordi, B4 and Leah, and with B4's slow growth. I await the continuation.

Thank you all for your comments!

My last story is in need of some re-writing...so it'll be a little while before I post it.

See y'all later!

An intriquing little story exploring B-4's growth. I particularly liked reading the parts about Geordi and his mixed feelings about B-4. Seeing as how he saw Data as being almost human and certainly a friend B-4 presents an awful reminder of his loss but it also brings home that Data was an android because of B-4's lack of development. Of course experimenting or setting up tests for B-4 actually detracts from the accomplishments and rights Data earned for himself.

Sorry a very confused mixed message there - I guess I am trying to say you nicely explored B-4's growth; Geordi's actions and feelings I am more ambigious about because in treating B-4 like a malfunctioning android who is not like Data kinda makes it seem like he didn't see Data as a person. But I actually liked the story despite the way it made me think of how Geordi thought of Data.
