That's actually a more interesting premise than the one we got. They really shouldn't have brought Roddenberry back.

That's surreal. The names are mostly terrible though, like something a tweenage boy would name their badass videogame character.

Brik is an amazing name, though.

It occurs to me that with a few smallish tweaks (i.e. the 10 year war) that could be the basis for a series of novels set at some point in the 'litverse'.

It does sound very interesting, though it's a shame that "Alien Cadet" is so bare and that the main focus on "Joyce" is mostly on how she's so beautiful it hurts. Also there is the whole thing of a Cadet jumping over ranking officers to become the XO, but lets not go into that too much.

Maybe it's just me, but I really like the Klingon Military Attache plot. Too bad it was abandoned.

I didn’t know that Berman was attached to the show before Roddenberry came aboard. Or that “Worf” was a concept from the Strangis version.

I didn’t catch any clear indication of when this show was set, but it doesn’t seem like it’s decades later. It was very much closer to being a “next” generation, and not four generations later. Interesting stuff!

Okay, so let's try to attach a PDF (haven't done this before, here) - it's not big, about 20 K.

This is a 1986 internal document describing the concept and characters for a1986 show called "Star Trek: The Next Generation" being developed by Greg Strangis for the studio.

It's been made available online by the Roddenberry folks and can also be downloaded from a publicly provided link on Google drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FolLXCKtHeTvbkGnJ5dyjmH60KKQb9HE/view

This is the direction that the studio intended to go with the new series, before GR agreed to do it.

Pretty revealing, particularly with respect to how the thing was misrepresented later.

Berman was an executive at Paramount. He worked with Roddenberry on the TNG launch and Roddenberry hired him on to the staff during preproduction on the first season.

The document is available as a PDF on Google drive.

Everyone should check out Chaos on the Bridge. Fascinating stuff!

Actually, I find the idea interesting and would have been interested in watching it. My thinking is, given Paramount could have used existing sets and costumes, the reason it isn't a future Enterprise is because it might have been set not too long after the original movies.

I kind of like this premise. The training cruise aspect of it is a little new. The characters aren't much, but would grow over time. Oh, well. What might have been.

Yeah, think this is more GTD's territory. Energizing....

ETA: Merged in separate thread from Future of Trek.
