Star Trek: The Next Generation: Takedown

It's definitely Aventine, as indicated by the more oval-shaped primary hull, the Enterprise's is traditionally circular.

It's definitely Aventine, in an actual scene from the book. (That doesn't always happen, so it's nice when it works out!) I believe the cover artist did the initial design for the ship. As to what's being targeted in the attack run, I don't want to give that away yet -- but it's obviously pretty darn short range.

Looking forward to speaking more about the book in the following weeks; I have appearances in Kentucky, Tennessee, and South Carolina this month (schedule here) and figure to do some podcasts between now and the book release.

Wow, this book sounds very good just based off of the description. I'm definitely looking forward to this. I loved JJM's KOTR comic, so I know I already like his work. Hopefully this turns out to be awesome.

This is a really interesting cover and kind of reminds me of the cover for Warpath in that it's so different from what we usually see. The title font and placement of it and Miller's name is interesting too. This whole cover set-up wouldn't have looked out of place on a hardback!

I've pre-ordered! Really looking forward to reading this one. The prospect of a space battle between Picard in the Enterprise and Riker in the Aventine is too good to pass up.

To be honest I have mixed feelings about this book. The story looks really interesting but I'm concerned how it will read on the page. Before saying anything else I will say that I have enjoyed John Jackson Miller's work in the Star Wars EU but I really had issues with last years Titan novella "Absent Enemies". Reading the reviews on Amazon I know I wasn't alone in thinking the characterizations were off (Riker was unrecognisable) and it had lots of little inaccuracies regarding past events and terminology for example Christine Vale recalled fighting Shinzon when she was on shore leave at the time, hence Worf at Tactical in Nemesis and referring to transporters as teleports. Hopefully this was all down to being Jacksons first Trek story and Takedown will be really enjoyable. I guess we'll find out at the end if the month

Two weeks out from this release! Getting excited to see it in print.

In the meantime, I've posted the long-delayed production notes for Absent Enemies on my site. I'm hoping the ones for Takedown don't take until 2016! :)

Is anyone else having a hard time finding this book in the Ottawa (Ontario Canada)area? I know I can order it online, but my local Chapters usually has all Trek book out a few weeks before the online release date, so i've stopped regularily using online resources to get the books. Not a big deal. I'll order it if I have to. Just wondering if anyone has seen it out this way...

^ I was actually coming into this thread to ask the exact same question. I haven't seen this one crop up in SW Ontario either. I keep checking Chapters' website regularly, to no avail. I know that sometimes they are a little slow getting the first one of the year in after the holiday season... however, they are now showing Savage Trade as in stock, and still no Takedown. What gives?

I was wondering if maybe they ordered much fewer copies than usual, and they sold out, and I missed the window? If that's not the case, I'm not sure why they would just skip this release.

I'm being patient for now, because I don't like ordering books online. But if that's going to be the only option for this one, I may just have to go for it.

(Too bad Chapters drove all the independent bookstores out of business....)

I just checked the Chapters website and on the MMPB I got the surprising announcement that it is not available in stores---it's a website only book. I know that you can have the book shipped to the store as I did, but apparently Chapters is not having any Coles, Chapters, Indigo or other physical store carry it.

So if you didn't have internet you couldn't get the book? Where's the logic in that?

The logic probably is that they would be expecting you to visit one of their stores, order the book through the kiosk that they have there, and hopefully buy something else in store, and pay for both your kiosk and in store purchase with cash, debit or credit card at the same time. (Every store has at least one kiosk, since Chapters seems to be going more for the books on demand approach rather than stocking every new release.)

Ah, so you can order online in the shop itself. Okay, then.

Just curious, but what are you basing that on? If it's that "Not available in stores" tag just above the price... isn't that the standard tag that all books get if stores don't have stock, but it's past the "release date" in the system? (Versus "not yet available in stores" if it's before the release date?)

Besides not liking ordering books online, it's actually more expensive for me too... I get 10% off in store, but only 5% off online. Do you know if shipping it to the store allows you to get the full 10% discount?

I'm also basing it on the fact that the website would not allow me to enter any information as to what my local store was, and even with older Trek books it was allowing me to enter the information. As for the tag, I've mostly seen that used on other items on the site such as CD's and DVD's, or used books.

But for me, I usually order through the kiosk or website as my local Coles doesn't get the new book every month, or sometimes I've seen it where they'll get the June, August, October books, but the July, September, November books don't appear till December.
