Star Trek: The Kobayashi Alternative

Nuadu

I'm going back in time about 25 years by bringing this one up... Who else, besides me, has a fond memory of this game? This was one of my favorite games back when I was young and had a Commodore 64. It came in a fabulous little package that had some tidbits of history of each of the Enterprise crew and some prologue to the actual game (I think it was written by one of the more prominent ST authors, if I remember correctly).

It was completely text-based, but I didn't care - I loved reading the verbose storyline as it progressed.

After I finally managed to beat it, I would warp to the vicinity of the final mission just to engage in combat with the Klingon ships that patrolled the area. I would sometimes even go to Ascella and try to beat the Krngga (god, I still remember its name after all these years) - but it was always a non-starter, I think it was meant to be invincible or something.

So - memories? Comments?

I do. I never completed it though, because as far as I remember, there was a nasty bug. Loved swearing and having McCoy take me away though lol.

I used to play this game a lot, along with The Promethean Prophecy. I loved both of them, but it's been a long time since I've played either. Really liked the book/manual that came with The Kobayashi Alternative. Was a very fun game, for some reason I preferred the The Promethean Prophecy story more, but liked the Kobayashi interface better.

I love these, still have them on the shelf here. I agree with General Phoenix, the books are great, almost as good as the games. Would be fun to play, are there emulations out there? You could fit all of them in a folder on an SD chip now :)

I loved that game. Couldn't finish it though, I should try again.
Trekcore is using some of my photos of the book/manual on their site that I sent them a few years back (giving back to the community).
You could try running it on a C-64 emulator like CCS64 or whatever it's called.

I've always wanted to see both of those games updated into a SCUMM type engine, or maybe something similar to the 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites. I've tried running Kobayashi Alternative, but apparently need MoSlo, since it runs way too fast.
