Star Trek: The IMAX Experience--Two Weeks Only!!!

Just a heads up, if you all want to see Star Trek in IMAX you might want to consider purchasing tickets now if you can. It's only gonna be running for two weeks. I was gonna wait till the week of, but when I saw the ad online on IMAX.com, I went ahead and bought a ticket. If you wait till the last minute, the opening weekend at least will most likely be sold out. IMAX does sell out fast when it's a high profile movie, like Star Trek. I tried to go and see Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix on a whim on Imax in the afternoon, and it turned out it was sold out all day! So act now! This is the first Star Trek movie presented in Imax, so it's definately gonna be awesome.

Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't have thought of that. I just looked at where it's showing close to me, and of all the cool things, it's showing at the I-Max theater at the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum by Dulles Airport. My family will be watching the movie just a few hundred feet from where the space shuttle Enterprise is on display. If you're in the area, tickets go on sale there April 24.

It takes some getting used to, but one you do, you'll want every movie to be released in IMAX. The first one I saw was Spider-Man 2, and I was floored by it. The next one I tried to get into was as I said, was Harry Potter 5. I finally got to see anotherone when The Dark Knight was released. I saw Shine a Light, the Rolling Stones concert as well that year. The sound matches the screen size as well. I also saw The Day the Earth Stood Still, and the sound was incredible on that. When a helicopter, or a jet flew by the screen, it shook my seat. It's like going on a two hour ride, or in Watchmen, and The Dark Knight's case, an almost 3 hour ride! So, yeah if you can find an IMAX close to you, you should check it out. You might just get addicted to the sheer size of the screen, and amazing sound. I made it appoint to see every movie in IMAX this yer.

No I have not...but I did a lil research today about it and I don't think it's gong to be a bad experience...quite the contrary from what I've read from others...so that prompted me to purchase my tickets today for the Long Island IMAX on May 8th at midnight!

I have to imagine this is going to be a letdown. The movie was shot on 35mm film and the resolution just isn't there for a screen that big. I remember seeing The Matrix Reloaded at an IMAX theater (also a 70mm blowup print) and it was rather disappointing.

It doesn't look even close to as good as a true IMAX flick, but its definitely better then the regular showing at the least in terms of sound quality. There is truly a perceptible difference.

Saw The Dark Knight at an IMAX theater. Actually saw it twice. Quite an experience and quite a movie to see in IMAX btw. I understand they used ALL the IMAX cameras that were available for the filming, and actually broke one. Ouch!

Some scenes were shot in IMAX, others not.

I have never had a problem at an Imax theater and in fact have seen a lot of "regular" movies there. Dark Knight, Lion King, etc. It is an EXCELLENT visual experience. If I am going to see a movie more than once and it is in Imax, I will usually see the regular theater version first, so that the second viewing has something special added to it (the big screen). If Star Trek is only in Imax for two weeks, I may have to reverse that!

i saw superman returns at the imax and was really disappointed to say the least. the image was really grainy. it looked much better on the normal movie screen.but then ive heard that it wasnt really shot for imax , so that could be the reason for the poor image.

I just booked my ticket online for opening night. I've never been before either, so this is going to be a new experience. Aparently the one at Melbourne Museum boasts the worlds 3rd-largest screen, and the largest screen in Melbourne.

i dont know why but i have seen films not shot for imax look both bad and good after being transfered to imax.
maybe it was in the quality of the original print or in the quality of the care taking with transfering up to imax size but a movie not shot originally all for imax can still look not as great as one shot in format but still really good.

the non imax scenes for dark knight still looked really good when i saw it in imax last year.

but yeah due to terminator the first imax run is for two weeks.
there is a chance if the movie takes off and there is demand they may bring it back later on in the summer but i would go ahead for now and plan to see it in that two week span.
i would also get tickets as soon as possible because they are so limited in each city.

I think NATM2 is really gonna be bad. It just looks so forced, and comedy lines that we've heard over and over again are getting stale. The only thing keeping Star Trek from a longer engagement is the suits. I bet when the returns come in that Trek is selling out online before the movie even comes out will open their eyes and give Trek a longer stay in IMAX. IStar Trek will most certainly make more in it's two week run than NATM2 will make in it's entire run in IMAX.

I snagged my tickets for opening day IMAX the day after they went on sale. I can't wait to see this flick on the truly BIG screen!

I've seen about four movies in IMAX, "Superman Returns" and "Transformers" among them, and both were awesome sights on the huge IMAX screen, and the 3D parts of "Superman" were neato fun.

I will of course be seeing Trek on the regular screen as well. For um...comparison purposes. Yes. That's the ticket...

Yeah man forget Stony Brook & Brooklyn....there's an IMAX theater right by Roosevelt Field like M' said...

Well I feel like I got a bargain now at $15 bucks a pop which of course included the lovely service charge...

I just want everybody to know that I have never in my life attended a movie on opening night no matter what movie or genre ...i just don't do it...it's not done...!!! Except for this one time....
