Star Trek: The Experience (01-04-98 to 09-01-08) Memorial Thread

I attended Star Trek: The Experience for the last time on Wednesday. Here are my impressions and memories, good and bad.

My first stop was lunch at Quark's. I met an Andorian with a dry wit and several cool people at the bar. I ordered a mini Warp Core Breach, and it caused me to get truly drunk for the first time in my life. For a while, I was flying high, but then I felt sick to my stomach for about a half hour.

The Secrets Unveiled tour was next. Christopher was my tour guide, and he was very friendly and pleasant. Seeing the costumes and how some of the effects are done was cool.

The tour ended just in time for pictures. That experience was pretty fun, but the Borg chamber is far too cramped for eight people to fit into.

This was my first time on the Borg Invasion show. The assimilation part is very creepy, and there is good integration between visual and physical effects.

There was an hour wait until the next Klingon ride, which is inexcusable in my book. However, since I was there for the last time, I decided to kill time in the shops until 8 PM rolled around. There were a few decent shirts and toys, but there really hasn't been that much innovation in the last five or so years. The most memorable toy is still easily the tribble. I also don't understand the fascination with the bears in different outfits. Why not some different plushes like sehlats? I am glad that they have books for sale, but the most recent is The Sky's the Limit. They should at least have the Terok Nor books or A Burning House in stock.

The line for the Klingon Encounter became very fun when the Klingon started making the rounds. He mocked pretty much everybody. He teased me about wearing a red shirt, given what tends to happen to others in similar attire. He also tossed off a good line about getting hit by shrapnel in regards to a guy's piercing under his lower lip. The ride itself was a little jerkier than I remember, partially because I was in the front corner this time.

I'm actually not that sad about The Experience closing anymore. The rides and shops are badly in need of updates. The best thing about the place are the staff and customers, and all we need to gather these types of people together is a common meeting place. The Exhibition will be one option. The Meetup forum and local clubs are other possibilities.

Halloween night at Quark's:

Ferengi1.jpg

Me as Quillt, the galaxy's tallest Ferengi, and his Andorian paramour. The makeup is the deluxe Westmore kit enhanced with an "orc" facial prosthetic. A few hours of partying in that headpiece really made me empathize with the alien characters who worked at the experience day in and day out. It's hot in that thing! After several attempts at authentic-looking Andorian antennae, I finally gave up and went with a pair of clear plastic "party antennae" with blue glow-sticks inside... a very cool effect in the darkened bar and on the dance floor.

Just one of a million great memories. Thanks everyone!

Ahh, I'm going down to Vegas tomorrow morning specifically to have my final visit. I've never been on the backstage/secrets tour, so I'm going to make sure to give that a shot.

I think this'll be my 4th time going. I'm sad to see it go, as I always stop by when I'm in the area.

Wow.

I had no idea it was closing until this moment.

I know I certainly appreciate being able to make it to Vegas at the end of June, where my mother and my aunt and I went to The Experience. Such a great time was had by all three of us. My aunt's the Trek fan who got me hooked on Trek, along with my grandpa, and my mom came with us because she was interested to see what it was all about.

Boy, am I glad I impulse-bought that Tribble.

Well, I got to go there 3 times over the years but I never saw the Voyager ride. Oh well. The good times shall be remembered.:(:)

I remember the first time i went to the experience. I stood at the top of the stairs, saw the giant Voyager hanging from the ceiling and my jaw dropped to the floor! I nearly fell down the stairs as i couldn't stop looking at it!
I have done the rides so many times over and over again and will have a last day of them after the convention as well as get drunk in Quarks a lot which is always a favorite thing to do there. Bring on the Warp core breaches!:bolian:

Well, I just got back from the Experience and Creation Con. It was fun to trot out my old Klingon character from when I used to work there (and drink tons of bloodwine in character). It was also great fun to see the other characters I've worked with get there their moment in the sun at the "Aliens Unmasked" panel up in the captain's lounge over Quark's. I have to admit I got a bit misty when I saw the fan reaction and a couple of spontaneous standing Os.

Please keep posting. I'm adding on to the big-ass pdf I'm sending to the staff.

I'm actually not that sad about The Experience closing anymore. The rides and shops are badly in need of updates.

Except for the sad part I Agree. Not just updating though, they are no longer putting in time to upkeep them. We did the backstage tour a few days ago and the Ent-D bridge used for the Klingon Encounter had black tape everywhere around the science stations to hide marks or hold it together. When the lights are down you can't tell unless your looking for it. The Photo op bridge was looking bad compared to a year ago. Im not say any of this to complain, it is just a sad reminder that they no longer need to upkeep with repairs and such, that it is going away forever. The whole trip to Vegas this past week was wonderful especially the Experience. It will be missed!

I'm sitting in my room on the 27th floor of the LV Hilton after an *awesome* first time, full day at the Experience. I was only 11 when the Experience was opened, and have wanted to visit ever since. Hearing that it was about to close, I decided it was time to make an effort to get out here...

...and I'm amazingly happy that I did. What a fantastic day!! I'm actually a little emotional that there's still so much love and dedication to 'Star Trek' out there, despite the new movie it seems to be slipping further and futher into the past, but having seen 'The Experience' today I have renewed faith that the fans will keep Trek alive.

My first rounds on the rides I had a giant smile painted on my face the whole way round, particularly 'Klingon Encounter'. To be transported to the Enterprise was truly awesome, and to get the opportunity to walk on to the bridge was just an amazing experience. Integrating live actors into the shows added life and really sold the show, and each of the actors was really convincing.

Despite the fact that I'm here the week after the gift shop was looted by the Convention attendees, I still spent hours just wandering around stores dedicated to Star Trek gear, and I picked up some cool stuff.

I'm in Vegas for another day, but I'm really tempted just to spend all of tomorrow hanging out in 'The Experience' to enjoy it fully before it closes. I definitely want to do Klingon Encounter once or twice more.

The Wall of Memories was very moving, and I was priviliged to add to it.

Thank you, 'Star Trek: The Experience' for your awesomness. This trip has been so worth it.
