Re: Star Trek: The Continuing Mission - Ghost Ship Now Avail

I really enjoyed this show. The cast is awfully tight and they did a good job presenting the drama of the episode. The storyline was quick and to the point and did quite a bit in the 26+ minutes they had. The pacing was probably a little too fast as if we're just served a quick introduction to the key players so this episode can get in the can and establish the overall theme that serves as the motivation for the series. Even with that, I liked the way you pulled off some of the "low tech" voice effects to convey certain situations and the use of sound effects that have become the staple of these great fan produced Trek audio shows.

Ghost Ship was nearly as well done as any given Star Trek: The Lost Frontier show and has definitely hooked me with the ending of this episode.

While I could nitpick a few things with the script and acting, it's going to be a little rough the first time out and the episode's pros far ourweighed the cons.

Ghost Ship was an impressive first effort for the series and I look forward to the next episode.

Good luck with The Continuing Mission...

Very much enjoyed it!

Here are my cheers and jeers:

Jeers:
"Space- the final frontier..." I don't think if Paramount ever did another
Trek show, short of one about the Enterprise, that they would ever re-do
Kirk's (and Picard's updated) intro speech. I think it's fine that Exeter
made their own version, as they are trying to re-create the TOS feeling, and
Section 31 and Lost Frontier made their twisted versions to illustrate the
twisted Trek universe they take place in, but just re-doing it with a couple
of words changed is getting silly. I wish you and Defiant would come up with
a more original way to open your shows. Please?

Also really dislike the use of Next Gen's opening music/sound fx tacked onto
the beginning of your opening theme song. Unoriginal and unecessary.

Chief Engineer's accent. Sounds like a weirdly bad Scotty... or Sean
Connery. Sorry.

I wished there were more good female roles. I think you only have two? I
like Numi, an enthusiastic young science officer with a friendly but
respectful relationship with the Captain. We haven't gotten to know Palmer
yet.

Total nitpick- When the Romulans were going to ram the ship- shouldn't
someone have ordered "evasive maneuvers"?

Not in love with the crew (yet). A white male Captain, a sarcastic doctor,
an Irish Chief Engineer, and an alien XO- a little too familiar on the
surface, but it's too early to judge them of course.

Have you thought of putting it on iTunes as a podcast? It's a great way of
keeping updated.

Pros-

Very professionally done audio.

Love the movie era correct sound fx. I love the movie era- I wish they
stayed there, but again, too soon to judge why you put a movie era ship &
crew in the 24th century. Hope it's a good reason.

I love that your first episode starts out with EXPLORATION. We get way too little of that in fan productions and modern Trek. Too much war, not enough "strange, new worlds". I hope we get more in upcoming episodes.

The actor playing the Captain really hits the mark. Clearly a professional.

Overall, a very impressive first effort. I hope you go on for a long time. Can't wait 'til episode 2.
