Sorry mods I could not find a board with this topic. Anyone ever watch the animated series? I have the DVD's but have yet to finish watching them. Sorry TOS is just far more interesting. Whats your fav episode of the animated series?

Unquestionably "Beyond the Farthest Star." Followed by "The Eye of the Beholder."
Eye of the Beholder? They copying names from Twilight Zone?
Many TV shows have episodes with similar names.
Favorite TAS episode: "The Time Trap"
Some shows even use the same names for different episodes of the very same show. Hence this list:

"Beyond the Farthest Star" was the first one NBC aired and it was a great start. The story wasn't too juvenile and I loved the music. Thanks to audio tape and the limited number of cues, I quickly had TAS music memorized and would "play" it in my head on bike rides. It was great to be a kid.

No; "Yesteryear" was the first to air, according to both my personal recollection and Bjo's Concordance. "Beyond" didn't air until months later.
It was, however, the first to be adapted in ADF's Star Trek Log series.
Tas is a great forgotten gem. It filled the void, along with tmp, of trek in the 70s. Like tos, it had hits and misses. But good overall. Definitely worth checking out.
It was "Beyond" in the US that premiered first. No mistake. I remember the premier quite well, including the special that showed a clip from "Beyond" the Friday night before.

Yesteryear was probably the best for me followed by Time Trap! Am I right in remembering that The Romulans used Klingon ships in their first appearance here but were back to Birds of Prey in the second series?

Had a few days off and had caught up with all the Series 3 shows of TOS that I could not remember clearly.
Then as I like to follow podcasts like Mission Log I decided to get the TAS 4 DVD 22 episode box set ,only £12 ,so I could follow their discussions.
I was quite pleased, Have only seen the first DVD of 6 episodes of TAS so far. I thought 'Yesteryear' a Spock time travel episode written by DCFontana was best, as good as some live TOS episodes and had drawings of Vulcan which took advantage of animation as opposed to live action.The TAS scripts seem to often mention earlier TOS shows which is a nice touch.
'Lorelei Signal' features Uhura as acting captain which is a plot idea that would have been good to have seen in TOS.
There was a spoken commentary on a follow up Tribbles episode by David Gerrold and a text commentary on Yesteryear. Though admittedly most of the animation is crude.
So overall enjoyable the first TAS DVD offered enjoyable TOS linked fare with 3 more to come. It was certainly more enjoyable than The interminable first Film , Star Trek The Motion Picture which I also tried this week.

In Los Angeles, "Yesteryear" was the premier episode because George Takei was running for a spot on the city council (or something similar). His opponent cried foul on the idea that George's voice on TV would violate the "equal time" rule which was in force back then. George didn't appear in "Yesteryear", so that one ran first in L.A.
"Beyond the Farthest Star" was the one shown that first week in the rest of the country, including my home town.
The Star Trek Concordance places huge importance on TAS, because it was very recent stuff when the book was written. The typical half hour TAS episode got three or four times as much coverage as "Where No Man Has Gone Before"! And apparently Bjo Trimble was living in L.A. at the time, or she was given L.A. air dates by someone at Filmation.
TAS episodes got a lot more coverage in the Alan Dean Foster novelizations, too. They were expanded far beyond the basic-story format that James Blish used for TOS.

Of course, that doesn't change the fact that "Beyond" was a stronger lead (and was written by the same guy who brought us "Where No Man."
According to the Concordance, the Los Angeles airdate for "Yesteryear" matches the above, but the airdate for "Beyond . . ." was not until December 22nd.
This suggests that the series debut was simply delayed one week in the Los Angeles market. I wonder if somebody who has both the DVD set and the Concordance might compare the rest of the airdates.

I have to go with Yesteryear as well. Watched it with my girlfriend who asked "Did they copy that scene from the 2009 Star Trek movie?"
