I suggest that there should be a board dedicated to Star Trek: The Original Series. Now that the Star Trek: The Animated Series is out on DVD I am sure that the Star Trek fans out there have a lot of things to chime in on about it (I myself watched it in its entirety over 10 years before it official DVD release on November 21, 2006 by purchasing each of the official VHS releases of the show in the in the early 1990's).

Please acknowledge the legacy Star Trek: The Original Series has to Star Trek by giving it a board of its own as it rightly deserves.

I think it's quite at home in The Original Series forum, so I'm going to have to vote "no".

This vote was held when the DVD first came out. It belongs with TOS. (It was always considered a continuation of the original series. It uses the same designs and characters, and in fact, the title cards simply say "Star Trek". The "The Animated Series" has only been added retroactively for marketing reasons.)

A TAS forum wouldn't get enough posts to justify its existence.

There's never really been enough interest in TAS to justify a separate forum, but discussion of the Animated Series is welcomed in the regular TOS forum. :)

Thanks for the response. I am not trying to argue, but do consider that since I posted my suggestion for a board to be created for Star Trek: The Animated Series & started a poll on it creations this has spawned this new thread about the canon in regards to Star Trek: The Animated Series. This thread has had 380 views so far & 42 posts (you can see the thread at http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=120176). That seems to me like there is a bit is interest in Star Trek: The Animated Series.

Do consider that there may be reasons that the level of interest is a bit low on the creation of a board for Star Trek: The Animated Series. It was only on TV from September 1973 - November 1974 (a lot of people including Star Trek fans weren't ever aware of its existence at the time, or when it was released on VHS). It has only been widely available since November 21, 2006 when it was released on DVD (the VHS release in 1989 for the US & UK release in 1992 wasn't really readily available & took a bit of effort to find it for anyone who was interested in it at the time). Many people still haven't seen it & even now might not know that it even exists.

By not having its own forum people who don't know about it will not find out about it by visiting this site since they would have to stumble across randomly scattered threads that they might never see. Also people looking for details to help them decide it if is worth watching, or purchasing will not have much find much information since it doesn't have its own board.

I am just making the case for this board since I feel that it benefits all Star Trek fans & people who view this site. The creation of a board for Star Trek: The Animated Series can on benefit Star Trek as a whole by exposing more people to a new area of the Star Trek universe that they may know little or nothing about (I see not have a board for it as a disservice to all Star Trek fans & viewers of this site). This is justification enough in itself for the creation of a board for Star Trek: The Animated Series.

So what? When True Blood is airing new episodes, threads also get tons of views and posts in review threads. That's only about three months of the year. What's the point of a sub-forum just for it?

Makes as much sense as having a sub-forum for less than eight and a half hours of cartoons.

It really isn't that distinctive from TOS apart from the fact that is some kind of extended series of dream sequences or a messed up alternate universe. In addition, it is not really that appealing to new comers to Trek anyways. Unless they just happen to be within that rare percentage of people who avidly love 1970's cartoons or something.

Really. Even if I loved the series. I still think TAS should be classified under the Original Series. The only reason you would classify it differently is if you had an informational or wiki site like Memory Alpha.
