Star Trek tattoo

I've been bored all night, so like a teenager who's bored in the middle of class, I started doodling tattoo designs. I really like this one. I think it's simple and not overtly nerdy.

It's a mix between the Starfleet delta and the IDIC symbol.

Couldn't you just see that on a young woman's lower back, just above where she sits...

...or maybe in her "waxing" zone...

Aw-yeah, baby, Tramp Stamp that bad boy!

It would definitely work as a tramp stamp, but as I am a 200 lb boy, I don't think it'll have the same effect.

Version 2...just in case you want a little more width?

And then I got bored and played with Photoshop...

Definitely not where I'd put it... Put it on your arm instead.

You do realize that putting a tattoo over your spine is a bad idea -- if you ever need medical attention there, you can't get an injection or draw fluid through a tattoo because it isn't sterile...

Wait until all those college girls with "tramp stamps" ask for drugs when they're going into delivery, and the docs say no because they can't administer an epideral through their tatttoo! Boy, will they be surprised!

That would actually make a great emblem for the Vulcan Embassy, or a Starfleet office or recruiting station on Vulcan... or a Starfleet starbase on or orbiting Vulcan.

More than likely it'll go on my shoulder. I just though it looked neat in the middle of my back while playing around in photoshop.

Would this be your first tattoo? If so, do you plan to go through with it, or just making discussion? I'm browsing these posts trying to confirm to myself that getting my first tattoo - at 40 - and using a Star Trek theme isn't going to be a completely off-the-wall idea that will seem stupid to almost everyone else.

I like it, and I like where you've placed it. The poster upthread who's commenting about spinal tattoos is very interesting, however. As someone who's recovered from spinal surgery I considered having a tattoo over the scar as a bit of a momento. Now I'm having second thoughts in case he ever needs to go back in.

Any insight into the interaction between tattoo ink and MRI scans? Another thought in my mind trying to decide whether or not to go through with it would be if that would interfere with being able to have a MRI scan. (Not that I've ever had to have one so far, but it is worth considering.)

^ You might find this page of interest. Personally I wouldn't be put off having tattoo on the off chance I might need an MRI in the future. But that's just me (and as someone who hasn't got a tattoo and has had a MRI).

That doesn't sound like it would be an issue. I'd caught part of an episode of _Myth Busters_ on the topic, but didn't see (or at least don't remember) how it turned out.

So, back to finalizing the design! (I've even ordered some temporary tattoo paper to give the design a trial run. Gee, I guess I really am a geek.)
