Star Trek supporters sound off!

There seem to be a number of threads started by disgruntled individuals with topics saying they won't support the film since:

It doesn't have Shatner
It messes with canon too much
It doesn't have a Mugatu or Finney or other obscure references
It's a remake or reboot or revamp or redux
The Enterprise is clearly more advanced
Everything is more advanced and better looking visually than the 60s TV show

So, this thread is for the people who love this BOLD new vision to sound off.

I'll be there.

I'll be there even if they made Uhura from Brooklyn.
I'll be there even if Pike is killed in action, and Kirk takes over.
I'll be there even if they make Yeoman Rand into YeoMAN Rand.
I'll be there even if they start a new line of canon.
I'll be there even if old Spock is in a clearly different future than the one we know from the previous canon.

Time for the supporters to sound off.

From the teaser trailer, everyone knows that this is a MASSIVE science fiction film. It's not a STAR TREK film, it's a SCIENCE FICTION film.

You know what Star Trek films are? Formulaic. Ever since TWOK, with only a couple exceptions (TVH, TFF, and INS).

If so much detail and SCALE is put into the teader alone, imagine what the film will be like.

I wouldn't be surprised if the bridge was actually a multi-level complex that overlooked science stations below the command center.

Anyway, this thread is for the supporters to sound off.

I consider myself a purist. I've loved TOS since I first saw it around 1972. TNG and all the others were good, but they could not compare to the originality and wonder of TOS.

I love the teaser trailer and I think GR would be damn proud if he could see it. I think we are in for one hell of a great ride.

This is the most promising Trek event in several years. I will aboslutely be there opening night.

Count me in. The trailer rocked, and you absoulutly have to see it on the big screen to really appreciate it. I was very giddy!

I love Lost, MI:III was the best MI film, and Cloverfiled blew me out of the water- I have evry reason to belive the time has come for TREK- No LOTR, or Star Wars films to compete with- this is our time!

I'm excited to see what comes next from trailers. That was impressive, seeing the acters in character will pump more excitement into it. If this gets the right amount of ads it could do well. It would be nice to see Star Trek as one of the blockbuster movies of '08 behind Indy and Iron Man to name a few. Should be a top ten for sure.

I am absolutely thrilled about this movie, and cannot wait for it! I'm so glad I'm not one of those people who are hung up on all those mundane canon details. As long as they get the characters down right and their relationships, with a good story I'll be sold. I couldn't give a damn in the ship doesn't look like it's from a 1960s series with a shoestring budget.

I can't wait. Star Trek is back, and it's got a bold, daring new vision driving it! I'll be there on opening day!

I haven't been this pumped/stoked for a Star Trek movie since First Contact. I can barely contain my excitment. I could care less if some canon details are fudged. I want a good story, some nice action sequences, good acting that sort of thing...the stuff that really matters.

I'm with you there but I want some canon. Phase cannons, photon cannons. Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them, Cannon in front of them, Volley'd and thunder'd. I love that line...

When I saw the Teaser, a smile came to this old trekker's face, something that hasn't happened in a LONG time I maight add, i'm so there for this film 100%

Canon / Fanon ? Bah, all it does is get in the way of haveing fun.

I so want this new film to bring the Fun back, after years of mediocer [sp] Star Trek outtings, to the point were I was ashamed to be a fan of Star Trek no less, I think we do need to go back to the roots and make it fun again.

If the movie itself brings a smile to this old trekker's face when I go see it, it would of done it's job, I don't care if it isn't a huge success or failure, if it brings a smile to my face that's all that matters in the end.

* Who's still smileing just remembering the teaser *

well for me its like this: i don't care about kirk, scotty or all the characters as they are NOTHING without a good storyline and setting. therefore they could make the movie with some totally new guy. me does not care if the captain's named kirk or schnitzel.

what i expect from trek is:
- an intelligent story and good dialog
- someting that affects people for the better
- a true vision of a better future

everything else are just details imo.

I'm very excited at the prospect of seeing something totally new, yet so familiar.

And I totally agree with Woulfe. Trek in the last few years was sub-par. I remember when I could talk about TNG with my friends in the early 90's. But as time went by, I found that I was the only one still watching.

I want Trek to be big again, to be something I don't have to be ashamed of.And most importantly, I want it to be good.

I haven't been this stocked since I saw the TMP trailer back in the day.

What a let down when I saw the movie.

Then I saw the Galaxy Quest trailer.

I was stoked!

Then I saw the movie. I was still stoked! I've seen the movie 100 times so far.

Star Trek XI- The way a Star Trek film is supposed to be made.

Keep going JJ & Co.

I felt the same way. What was worse, I went with two friends who weren't really fans. They hated it, watching most of it with WTF looks on their faces. Talk about a buzz kill.

That was almost thirty years ago (GAG!).

I don't expect to be let down this time, though. Most everyone involved in the producation has a good knowledge of Trek, they respect its past, and they are excited to show their vision of Trek on screen.

I'll be one of the first in line December 26 (I'm not going to get anyone in the family to go with me on Christmas, and if I sneak out alone I might as well not come back).
