Star Trek: Supermax

Just a quick update, so people won't think I've vanished again.

Both the revisions to the old stories and the new stories are proceeding well, though more slowly than I first anticipated.

The problem, at this point, is that one of the two new stories (Episode 206) has turned into a monster--the longest I've ever written. It's currently forty-four pages, and will probably be more than sixty when I'm done.

So, the near future will be a little farther away than I thought at first. But I'm getting there. If you're still interested, stay tuned.

For what it's worth, here's the schedule for the revised second season:

201. "Fast One" (season premiere)(heavily revised)
202. "Drawing Dead" (revised)
203. "Murtad" (revised)
204. "Hard Site" (revised)
205. "Fathers and Sons" (new)
206. "The Second Circle" (new)
207. "Passengers" (new)
208. "Code Red" (season finale)(new)

I had a story idea for this month's challenge, but I've ditched it, to make sure this gets done.

Just read this. Very, very chilling indeed.

(And strange to see what YOUR "Thirteenth Order" is, versus mine! ;) )

Thanks.

 Call it "Trek Noir."

You didn't read all of them, did you? If you only read some, or one of them, then don't read any past the end of Season One. Like I said above--I'll be posting a revised version of Season Two before too long.

Further to further:

I woke up much too early this morning--around 4 a.m., in fact--and lacking anything else to do at that hour, I sat down and completed episodes 201 to 205.

So now we're just waiting on "the beast," aka episode 206.

Uhh...I read them all. Oh well--I'll read the new ones!

(BTW, have you seen my Thirteenth Order? I find myself thinking that if my Spirodopoulos ever got thrown in Supermax for any reason, he'd have a HARD time finding an alliance in there. I mean, would he belong to Fleet--or your Thirteenth Order? Somehow I imagine neither trusting him...)

Oh--well, what was your favourite?

(BTW, have you seen my Thirteenth Order?
I read it just today.

You didn't warn me it was a work in progress!;)

But seriously--I enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to the rest. After the way you described yourself as a 'sap,' I was a little surprised to discover that it was a war story--like The Devil's Brigade in space.

You've clearly put a lot of thought into the details of Cardassian culture, and your characterization of Cardassians--which got me thinking about the way I portrayed them in my own stories. I hope they met with your approval.

Well, first, I find it hard to imagine Spirodopoulos doing anything to warrant being thrown in Supermax. The prisoners on Sundancer are the scum of the galaxy.

But if he did...hmm. I think a lot would depend on the attitudes of Death-Head and the Captain.

Did Death-Head, for example, support Damar's rebellion, or remain loyal to the Dominion? My sense is that he's an amoral, apolitical opportunist who switched sides when he saw which way the wind was blowing. So he might actually admire Spirodopoulos for his flexibility. While he wouldn't allow him to join the Cardassian prison gang, he might be favourably disposed toward him, and even willing to extend him some protection.

I dunno, but at least from MY read of your stories, something tells me he'd end up taking serious shit from Fleet, if they decided to construe what he's done in The Thirteenth Order as desertion. That, plus there might be certain other things about him that would be noticeable. Especially, if he "oops, pressed the wrong button" in the craplicator line, out of boredom. Or if he demonstrated his language skills. Though something tells me those things might be a violation of the code of conduct...in addition to getting the Humanist Brotherhood really pissed at him.

It's hard to imagine him being able to survive in there, to be honest. He's a very strong, capable guy--but somehow...I just dunno, based on what I've seen. That may actually be saying something good about him.

For him to get in Supermax, somebody would seriously have to be gunning for him, I think, kind of like what it seems happened to Marla Gilmore.

On that note, story 105 was one I really liked in particular (and a rare story it is that makes me care about Voyager, especially Seven of Boobs). GREAT twist at the end.

107, with Yoshimura's body, was also a real standout.

And I can't explain why--but maybe it's just my "natural" affinity for Cardassians speaking, but I actually kinda like Gul Vornak...though I have a feeling I would NOT like what he did to get in there.

I'm gonna PM you with something else, though...just curious.

Ohhh...and about The Thirteenth Order, I had to look up The Devil's Brigade, and I see what you mean--although I think there's been a bit more difficulty getting along than Americans and Canadians!!! ;)

And yes. I AM a sap. But I am discovering that apparently, I can still write about war.
