As for why I think this week's is just as bad as last, while it wasn't the nonstop cringe-fest of last week, it countered with unrelenting stupidity. The whole "It's a wonder we don't run into our doppelgangers more often thing" is so idiotic that if it were in a children's cartoon I'd want the writers arrested for child abuse. This was like a bottom-tier holodeck episode without 'holodeck went wrong' to explain all the stupidity.

Interesting, I bailed on SFA after the free YouTube premiere. But I will say SNW 4x03 is more of what I would imagine for that show. Why are Ortegas and Scotty airing their Academy insecurities? Isn't Ortegas in her 40s, or is that just the actress?

Dang she looks pretty damn good for 41. I thought she was like late 20's early 30's at the oldest.

Kor was believably Kor to me.
Totally agree. A few times his delivery was very Colicos.

I'm still running with Augment Virus attempted cure theory, they worked on trying to cure it almost as soon as it became a wide enough spread issue in the Empire, the DCS Klingon design is because it over-compensated on reactivating suppressed genes resulting in their almost proto-Klingon appearance. Currently we're in a stable cure era but then the virus adapts and re-smooths them in time for their TOS appearances before the finally fix it firmly in time for TMP. If essentially every Klingon is a carrier then the virus mutating turning them into the smooth heads can happen very shortly before TOS allowing SNW to use their Klingons right up until the end.

Which is a nice analogy to our Covid pandemic. Remember all the warnings about mutations, and just as everything calmed for a few weeks (here in Australia, at least), along came Delta -- and all the borders started slamming shut again.

A mutating virus would make most angry Klingons even angrier.

I've a feeling there were a few less scientists after the failures.

It took over a century to finally eradicate the Augment Virus. That's a lot of Klingon doctors and scientists who went quiet or disappeared when the results didn't come back as wanted.

So almost nobody would have noticed.

It's just a much more interesting story than and 100 years later it was cured. The end.

Why not make more things a journey and fill in the gaps/inconsistencies with lots of new stories?

Klingons don't exactly embrace the civilian and medical sciences if ENT and other stories set in the 22nd and 23rd centuries are any indicator. Dr. Antaak was basically treated like a second class citizen when he was trying to first create Klingon Augments and then cure the deadly side effects. His needs and concerns were always given a backseat to what the military wanted.

Reusing actors never bugged me that much, outside of maybe the whole Nick Locarno thing.

Of course having an actor playing a different character, usually with different alien makeup, and not being treated in-story as being indistinguishable is maybe just a little different than a character showing up, being completely indistinguishable from another character, who also just so happens to be recently murdered, and possibly the most important person on the entire planet, and then pretending to be that person without anyone really being able to tell the difference.
