Didn't Nichelle Nichols herself argue Uhura should have been more than fluent in Klingon when they were doing that scene?
I swear I remember someone on here once saying an easy fix to that scene would've been one of Uhura's underlings trying to bluff their way through the call in the middle of the night. Then you have Uhura come to the Bridge and handle the call with total ease, tossing the translation books to the side.

You still get the comedy without having to undercut Uhura's skills as a professional linguist and communication officer.

This was definite real world director interference as I read Nichols protested the scene. I think we should probably read it as Uhura having the books for backup...

The novelization says that the Universal Translator was offline due to all the damage to the ship, IIRC.

It could be that incident was the genesis of the idea that Uhura should be a linguist that eventually was manifest in ST09.

Nah, the novelists had already covered that in titles such as "Uhura's Song" and "Tears of the Singers".

“finest film” (hate typing on my phone %*>~%%# 😂
I picked up what you were putting down, not to worry. :)

But I really do think Caddyshack is one of Many Films That Were Made and Released and there isn't much more to say about it. Your buddy's eccentricity is good fun as a result.

(The Caddyshacks of the world have their position to play in cinema. They are often infinitely rewatchable. That's how I feel about the Johnny Depp/Roman Polanski vehicle The Ninth Gate, which... I think maybe was created by a time traveler to be the Most Problematic Possible Movie in 2026. At least Caddyshack isn't dragging that baggage. :D )

Can't believe the whining about Kor's make-up. Trek fans used to think up creative explanations for this stuff.

Kor never had the Augment virus thing. He was always an old bumpy head.

During Errand of Mercy he's undergone surgery to lead a crack troop of smoothies in the invasion of Organia.

After that he reverts to his natural state.

Easy.

Have you met Trekkies?😉
Indeed! There's always been that split between people who need everything to be spoonfed and whine when something doesn't match up, and those who and enjoy the thought experiment of making everything fit together.

But I think it's definitely got worse in the current era. These review threads are largely just people nitpicking the things they think contradict something else, rather than the merits of the actual episode.

It was normalized with DSC/DISCO, where "critiques" were often just rote recitations of talking points that had little to do with what had happened onscreen (usually because the people involved didn't want to state their real problem outright).

That did a lot of damage to fandom and to the growth and retention prospects of a site like TrekBBS, but we're stuck with that dynamic now. Hence the number of people who feel the need to provide ratings here without having actually watched anything.

It occurred to me that the setup of a main character arriving in a situation where they have to take the place of someone who looks very similar to them is something that actually happened twice to Sisko, once in “Past Tense”, where he had to impersonate a historical figure to maintain the timeline, and in “Through the Looking Glass”, when Mirror Universe O’Brien recruited him to take the place of his MU counterpart who had died. I wish they had done something similar in “A Case of Chiaroscuro” and either just have Una vaguely resemble Nevette and her deciding to take her place or someone coming to the Enterprise and asking Una to help because Nevette had disappeared.

Blinks in These Are the Voyages two parter.
Oh gawd, they made a second part to that turd?!

(Hint: “These Are the Voyages” is just one episode. ;))

Bell and Sisko were not twins, they were just two men with similar haircuts.

There was nothing from stopping Bashir from playing Bell.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I was something terrible after reading some Reddit comments. I like a show that knows it's ending date and can just do crazy stuff.

Yes. We just have to assume that he got smoothy headed from the virus in later adulthood and then ridges again.

Side note ...John colicos was great as Kor both in TOS and DS9. The actor in this episode portraying Kor didn't have a very commanding/strong presence. Kinda forgettable. I'm sure he's probably a good actor. He didn't have much to work with here.
Bit of a burden for the actor by calling that character Kor. He could have just been a new character and it would have made no difference to the plot. But no the memberberries must be harvested.
