I hope it's simply a deranged Starfleet Captain who's gone space bananas. Humans make the scariest monsters.
When I give this episode a score, I'm going to give it an extra point just for the title.
they just turned the Gorn into the Xenomorphs.

I knew they were dead the moment they were introduced.

The hexagons in their Predator Vision (TM) suggests TOS eyes - perhaps they are hidden at this early stage and only pop out in the adults

Won't lie. Losing Hemmer so soon was both shocking and a huge disappointment but it doesn't affect my respect for what the episode tried to do. I so wanted him to hang on for at least a few seasons before Scotty is assigned as Chief Engineer, but I guess if he had to go out in Season 1 this was as noble and fitting an end as any.

Sam Kirk went full McCoy AND Guy Fleegman in this episode. Impressive.
