Hey, without reading the entire thread, I know there’s been A LOT of discussion online about Benny Russell being the author of the book, and whether that means he was real or not, but I kinda wanted to dig down that rabbit hole just a little further…

Sure Benny Russell wrote the story of DS9, but did you ever stop to think that he was inspired to do that based entirely on a drawing done by 1950’s General Martok?

I have been positive of NuTrek. I love all 5 shows. However, I hated this episode. It was the worst NuTrek episode in my opinion. Not even close.

I just rewatched Voyager’s The Cloud. Could that be the same entity? It could have moved since then.

Yeah, "When the Bough Breaks(TNG)" tried to do something interesting but just couldn't pull it off. It was basically a TOS supercomputer episode with 1988 set props but half the effectiveness of the 1960s episodes.

One thing I appreciate about SNW is that it really is the first ST series since TOS to just embrace TOS's legacy of genuinely silly episodes that are just there to be goofy. Other Trek shows would kind of wink at the idea a bit but not fully commit to just being goofy -- "One Little Ship" for instance is having a bit of fun with the idea of shrinking a runabout, but it's still got that "Jem'Hadar-take-over-the-Defiant" subplot. Or you'd have TNG episodes like "A Fistful Datas" or "Q-Pid," where there's like one funny gag but the episode doesn't fully commit to shameless silliness. But "The Elysian Kingdom" is very much a story in the vein of "A Piece of the Action" or "I, Mudd."

I'm impressed that this episode has inspired 33 pages of comments. I'm sure it's not the record number, but the ep is controversial, we all have opinions, and that makes it Trek. If Trek doesn't ignite us it's not Trek.

The final 10 minutes more than saves the episode. I understood what they were doing with the fairy tale, but most of it fell flat.

And at this point "predictable but decent" is better than a significant chunk of PIC Season 2 or large parts of the run of DSC.
