Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Fantastic! That completes the rest of the main line. They already have all the XL's and Specials out there now. Now they need all the "Shop Exclusives", STO and BSG mags. And even though I don't get the lines, I would love to see the Stargate, Firefly and Space: 1999 mags as well. :)

Hey, @Dukhat, if you are still in need of the three Excelsior Study Model magazines, they're all there now.

Thanks. Eaglemoss shipped me the correct study model without me having to return the extra one they mistakenly sent me. Now I have to decide whether I want to spend $10 to ship a $25 model back to Eaglemoss because of their mistake.

I'd say just flip it on eBay and make some of your money back. :)

Technically I didn't lose any money. I paid for three study models, got two and a duplicate, and eventually got the third one. What I would be losing is the free shipping I originally got, if I have to ship the extra back to them on my dime.

Imagine walking into a supermarket or toy store and looking how much Star Wars and Jurassic World content there is, compared to Star Trek. There's a dearth of everyday Trek products.

It's just a different kind of fandom. No Star Trek film has ever come close to being the top grossing film, the way the original Star Wars films or the original Jurassic Park did, nor have any of the newer films reached the billion dollar mark, the way Jurassic World and the newer Star Wars film have.

At the same time, though, Star Trek still has a very dedicated fanbase. If it didn't, a company like Eaglemoss could never afford to produce hundreds of model ships of increasing obscurity. Nor could a company like Playmates have produced such a wide variety of action figures in the 90's.

Yes, it probably skews a bit older, but it's also a bit less mainstream. It's also geared more towards TV than film, and (at it's best), it tends to focus on drama and philosophical and moral issues, rather than action and adventure (though it does have that too).

I was thinking about DS9's 30th Anniversary next year. 2023 is also the 25th Anniversary of "Far Beyond the Stars" - it would be nice to have a model of the 1950s USAF DS9 from Benny Russell's story. While it was only seen as an illustration on the episode, it is depicted on the cover of the novel adaptation.

Got the Cerritos today, I liked the size of it -- was less impressed at the misalignment of the paint for the molded windows, the bridge was especially egregious. I'll once again echo myself and others who wonder why they even bother to mold the windows at all, it barely matters for the scale of the huge starships.

Yeah, Eaglemoss has always historically had issues getting the window paint to line up with the physical surface details. Been that way literally since the beginning. As you say, they should just skip the molded embossing and just stick with the paint. Shit’s out of the horse on that one now, though. :ouch:

I think I was more understanding during the Collection days when they were small $20 models, but now that they're larger and 3-4 times as expensive, it's become more irritating.

I also collect diecast racecar models which retail for similar prices, which I'm sure are made in far fewer numbers than the Eaglemoss ships, yet somehow they manage to get their paint printing to line up.

Kinda wish they had found a way to do universal plastic pieces for the stands. Or at least sold/offered replacements. Broke the stand for my regular sized Defiant and none of the others…at least that I have…quite fit to swap around for a replacement.

I can relate. I broke a couple of prongs off the stand for the Arctic One (the non-assimilated version) and haven't had much luck repairing it. The connecting area is so small and the glue is so unwieldy. I think you need surgeon's hands to repair that. And if I was a surgeon, I could afford to just buy a new one..

I’ve never seen Trek toys in a supermarket.

I think the days of kids wanting Star Trek toys died some time ago sadly. It’s $600 die cast Enterprises for the adult collector market these days…

I saw one USS Vengeance hot wheel in a supermarket and that’s it.

What steamed me is how Hungary had ship toppers for drinks at ST:Beyond but we got NASCAR cups.
