Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Not the most exciting news, since I already have the D5, but I've been diligent with both "Enterprise" and Klingon ships, so I'm sure I'll get it eventually.

But, I mean, come on! Ten episodes for Degra's ship, and fifteen (plus the opening credits) for the Bajoran scout! What's the hold up, guys? (The Dreadnought missile and Think Tank and Yridian vessels could use some love as well).

On happier news, I got an alert that Regula 1 is on its way. It's due on Tuesday, but the last one did come a day early. I'm excited for my first station. (Unlike the Spacedock and K-7, this one was never made in Micro Machine form, so I've never had a version of this one).

Looking at the Armstrong model, and as well as the "Beyond" variant (which I now think has one central nacelle and two Kelvin-style secondary hulls), there's the "Into Darkness" variant which has a different roll bar (with far more organic lines, matching the back curve of the saucer), and more TOS-like details and colours. Red bussards and a bridge dome out of the second pilot episode.

If you can re-release every hero ship 5 times and every recycled guest ship, give me my USS Armstrong variants!

USS Varian Fry sold out at DST.

Edit: the Discovery-A model appears to lack the unusually oriented registry number on the ventral saucer seen on the promo material.

Well, today was an exciting day. As I expected, my Regula I arrived a day early (albeit a month after I ordered it). The model looks wonderful. It's technically the first "large" model I bought. I've resisted a lot of the XL model due to constraints on both space and budget, but this one was on sale and I just had to have it, being one of the four iconic space stations in Trek (along with DS9, K-7, and Spacedock).

I'm well aware that this originally the office complex in TMP, and that Andrew Probert was less than thrilled about them flipping over a model he'd meant to be oriented the other way, but I just noticed that a lot of the circular pods from the complex were removed when it was converted into Regula I and without them, it doesn't really look as good situated that way.

More interesting, I think, is to cover up the lower tanks with your hand and view it in the "Starbase 375" formation. Regula I was implied to be a smaller station with only a few dozen personnel, at most, whereas 375 (and the other stations it "played", such as 173 in "Measure of a Man") where meant to be much larger facilities. Thus, the model was presumably scaled up, just as Spacedock and Klingon BOP models were.

I'm very pleased with this one.

Does the Varian Fry have the ugly grille where a deflector dish should have been?
Yup, same design.
In STO, there's a deflector dish behind the grille that is lit blue or yellow, depending on your ship's visuals.
I use a pen to paint over the grille to make it look like in STO.

Question: How does one go about acquiring HeroCollector Collector's Guides? I see pictures of them on the web but I've never seen any way of actually getting one. I'm assuming they're handing these things out at cons.

Yeah, I got four - one of which I kept, another I sent to a friend, and two more I posted to fans today. If I had realized how popular they were, I would've gotten more. Perhaps one can be requested to be shipped with an order through Customer Support?

EDIT: I posted each page of the 2021 guide in the HeroCollector Fan Group on Facebook.

The Wallenberg-class tug has been delivered (UK sub), and the shipping paper identifies it as the USS Hercules. In the magazine, that name only appears on the concept art of the round-saucered USS Hercules NCC-130-27.

USS Maui meets USS Meow:

It's pretty light, but size-wise it's similar to some of the XL models:
