Depends on the material cost for armoring, and how many cubes the Borg have. It might be cheaper to replace a cube or two than to uparmor their entire fleet.

A higher chance of mission success should justify the armor.
Look at how many times a Borg Cube got defeated in regular combat. Right now they're the laughing stock of the Milkyway, they've been beaten and nerfed so many times, that they lack "Teeth" and "Fear Factor" to many competent species.
How many Borg Cubes did they lose to Species 8472 in their brief war? No matter how many cubes the UFP have destroyed, that brief war with Species 8472 must've destroyed ALOT of the Borg fleet.
The current design of the Borg Cube makes no sense because they only rely on shields and have exposed structure on the outside and depend completely on their superior regeneration of said structure.
If you can do more damge, faster than their regeneration rate, then every Borg Cube is fundamentally screwed. The way to do more DPS is usually by ganging up on a Borg Cube. In battle, you usually don't get a choice on how many vessels will come face you, so you might as well up-armor your baseline vessel.
Having armor buys a Cube or any Borg Vessel, more time for regeneration to operate / kick in.
The Defiant & Voyager is living proof that having the extra armor (Ablative Hull Armor) & (Ablative Hull Armor Generator) are more than enough extra defense to justify their existence.
And it's the Borg, they can easily mass produce anything they want as long as they direct the will of the Drones to do it. They'll plunder whatever planetary resources they need to do it.
Multi-Layer Physical Armor + Regeneration of Hull & Structure + Multi-Layer Shields = Superior Survivability.
This would turn Space Battles from being one sided affairs (Borg or Opponents easily winning) into Iron Man Wrestling matches where both sides have to work to win (I'm assuming a equally competent opponent with a large fleet behind their backs).
That would make for an interesting match-up, especially since they're willing to Kami-kaze.
Seriously, we need more intelligent use of attack drones / remote control fighters / etc.
Not the stupid picket line fight that we saw at the end of DISCO S2 where they just sat still and surrounded Discovery.
Outside of one major invasion by Species 8472, the Borg have had 3 cubes destroyed by outside forces in combat. They have also lost cubes in astronomical events, Ion Storm, pathogens, and through inside forces working to destabilize the Borg. But from a strictly physical side, its just three outside of Species 8472. Of course that we know if.
We know Species 8472 had destroyed over 8 planets destroyed 312 ships, and billions of drones. OF course that might be reference to just one battle thrust. We know from Voyager that the Borg control thousands of systems, and no idea how many worlds in those systems and have no idea how large their ship compliment is.We also know that the Borg don't seem to be in a hurry to assimilate the galaxy. Of course with the loses from Species 8472, the loss of one of the 6 Transwarp Hubs, and the loss of the Unimatrix. I think its safe to assume that the Borg are less focused currently on assimilated new cultures, instead focusing on rebuilding their infrastructure. I would assume worlds still near Borg space would still very much be at serious risk, but longer range attacks would be less common.
As for the shielding on the tactical Cube. We have one reference point on that. We had a Borg sphere destroy a tactical cube, once its shields were disabled (I think done from teh inside, but I could be wrong). And it took moments after teh shields were disabled for it to be destroyed. SO I think its safe to assume it didn't offer a tremendous advantage at least o particle weapons. It might help for weapons of a more physical nature, and that we have no information of.

I wonder if they'll base their Prometheus on the up-detailed model they made for season 9 (and then only got to use for one episode because the ship got blown up). The giveaway will be the side-pods; on the original model, they were engines and had grilles at the front, but the retconned model turned them into launch bays.

...ish? They were continuously upgrading Prometheus in the storyline, but there was no reason that the model would be replaced when it was (aside from just wanting to use a more detailed model now that the show was in HD). It also seemed to be scaled up a bit (I suspect the new model was built at the same time as the Daedalus, and they were intended to be a matched set).
So I could fanwank that the hyperdrive pods were at some point fitted out with smaller engines, so the front of the pods could be converted into extra hangar space, but it's just fanwank.

To me the only ship I ever wanted was the Enterprise D, but I can tell you one thing, buy them for your own enjoyment, because they don't retain their value.
I have never heard that before. It was always Trekkers or Trekkies. Trekkies more commonly.
Is Trekster the new modern descriptor for a "Hipster" version of Trekkies or Trekkers?
