Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

There hasn't been a PIC version so far. Unless they make a new one, the ones they have are not quite the PIC ones, but the STO version (no refit) is the closest one.

The Yorktown refit isn’t the one closest to Picard? How dare randos on the internet lead me astray!

I think the person that created the E-F for STO tweaked the design a bit for Picard. Both in design and paint application. It wasn’t just a straight 1 for 1 copy.

Right you are. Thomas Marrone just posted this portfolio page for the Odyssey-class model that has high-res renders of the new version, including comparisons with the old version (at Eaglemoss scale, there are very few differences that'll be visible to the naked eye, a bit like figuring out if the E-E is the FC/INS or NEM version), and a viewer so you can examine the actual 3D model in your browser.

The previously unreleased Yosemite, Cravic ship and Kaylon interceptor drop simultaneously on Friday. Goodness, I hope I manage to snatch them all before they sell out!

Thanks for posting that.

Yeah, most of it is contour changes that probably aren't particularly discernable at the 5-inch scale and some color differences that Eaglemoss would probably screw up anyway. The thing that would be most noticeably different is the planetary sensor array moved forward.

Cost. Articulated parts cost extra money to produce, as opposed to a static design.
  • Why don't the saucer/engine sections separate on any of the Starfleet ships like they should?
  • Look at their 3 different wing-configuration versions of the Klingon Bird of Prey - perfect example where they might have done a movable option but didn't. The small scale of the model would have also made it nigh-impossible, even if they wanted to, once you understand the mechanics of how the original studio filming miniature's wings functioned.
  • The Scimitar also had similar movable configurations. It was a slightly larger model that might have allowed for it, but they didn't even bother with movement, or even other static variants, because NEM sucked so bigly.
  • IIRC, the original TNG S1 Ferengi Marauder had a part in the front that slid down forward, but they never even touched on that because few people like Ferengi enough to warrant financing such a mod, so they ignored it.
  • Don't even get me started on all the wacky shit Book's ship can do in DSC! How could anyone replicate that??
So, that's pretty much the nutshell of it. Cost.

Edit: It also occurs to me that there could arguably be design weaknesses introduced by including multiple moving parts on these models. This could lead to them potentially wearing out and falling apart over time, especially if the movements are frequently "played with". They're collectibles, not toys.

going for the E-F today. Probably gonna miss it since there are only 106 but if it gives me the chance to use the August coupon I gotta try. My 2nd ship for the deal is gonna be the Andorian Battle Cruiser from Enterprise.

Still baffles me that we had "Warship Voyager" and "Armoured Voyager" but not "Voyager at warp with its nacelles raised".

yeah, this is one that has always seemed weird to me. Seems like a slam dunk to copy the Bird of Prey template and do “Voyager at impulse”, “Voyager at Warp” and “Voyager Landed” instead of the variants that required much more work to create/produce.

They probably just hadn’t got around to those yet…. :rommie:
