Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

byvYkXu.png

At least I have something to read while waiting for new releases or announcements from Eaglemoss.

I screen capped those myself :nyah:
Ah fair enough. But you don't have to screencap anymore. If you're on a laptop or PC, on Acrobat Reader you can now select any of the elements of the PDFs and copy and paste them at full resolution. Some art has the ends of nacelles cut off by the edge of the page but if you copy and paste it's all there.

Very cool

The latest Star Trek: Shipyards book, Alpha Quadrant and Major Species: Acamarian to Ktarian, has arrived.
It's about as thin/tick as the Federation members book. Like the BSG book, I'm looking at which ships have orthographic views, which would indicate that they'll get made. Very few.

I never realised that the Altec ship (reuse of the Merchantman from STIII) was purple. It looks great, like an ancient Dominion ship. Makes me want to have model but I doubt they'd do a palette swap. Similarly with the Cardassian Bok'Nor class (another Merchantman reuse).

I'm super hyped for the next book in the series because I hope I covers all the Xindi ships, pods, probes, shuttles etc.

Where is the Leviathan class Orville ship?
That would be a nice addition, but I kind of get the feeling the Orville line may be done. Eaglemoss has had plenty of time to add a couple of more ships from The Orville, but have instead seemed to have moved on and introduced a couple of new lines such as The Expanse, Tron, and even Firefly.

I was happy to see that the rather obscure "claw ship" got a full set of orthos in the Shipyards book, but upon closer inspection I think it's not the original CG model...

Since the second volume was renamed "Lysian to Romulan", the Xindi ships will presumably be in a third volume.

Poked my head in my local store and saw he had a DS9 (a few, actually) and I impulsively bought one. It's the standard sized one, not the XL version, though it comes with a stand.

Both the outer and inner rings, as well as the three connecting struts, are all metal, so the model has a bit of heft to it. The detail is terrific. I'm really glad I was able to pick this one up today without having to wait a month for it. Cheers to brick and mortar stores!

Are you sure it’s not the XL? The original smaller version doesn’t have a stand, which is a bit annoying. It’s about 6” across. Did they reissue it with a stand?

In retrospect, I think, yeah, this is the XL version. I've been resistant to get those, but this one actually isn't that much larger (about 8" wide) and looks comparable to the Relay Station and the Regula 1 sitting next to it. It's also got me interested in getting K-7 and Spacedock and possibly the Klingon space station as well. I may order them off the site, though I was turned off by the fact that the Klingon D5 tanker is still not available on the Canadian site, even though it's listed.

In other news, I poked my head into my local store and decided to get something. I was considering the Lokirrim ship (which I'll probably get next time) but settled on the "Void ship" AKA the ship used by the aliens in the episode "Night" (Fun fact: the cast and crew referred to them as "poop aliens" in the episode).

This is one of the weirder looking ships in the main line. It almost looks like some kind of funky alien phaser that a guest character on the show would wield. It's somewhat organic looking and sits in sort of a loop on the stand, similar to the stand for the Romulan drone ship. I'm a little disappointed with the seam line cutting vertically down the front, but other than that, it's okay. In the past, I was resistant to get "alien of the week" ships from Voyager, but I've loosened up on that more recently, maybe just because I want to keep adding something to the collection, or maybe because I feel bad popping into the store and not always buying something. It is nice to have something you can take home with you that day, rather than waiting an eternity for something to be shipped, usually from the US or UK.

Speaking of which, I finally got an update on Friday that both my outstanding orders are due on Tuesday. That's a total of 3 shuttle sets and 4 single models, which will be quite an exciting day. The bummer is I've learned they're no longer shipping magazines with them, so I've resorted to looking for loose mags on ebay. I found issues for two of them (the Raven and Gorn ship), but not for the Fesarius or Orion Interceptor. I can download the former, but the magazine PDF's on the site only go up to 150 for the main line, so no interceptor. I still hope to get proper magazines for both, so I'll keep looking.
