Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Sort of in the same boat, I used to think Eaglemoss' customer service was great, but now I think it sucks. I still haven't received the three-nacelle 1701-D after several emails; so I'm pretty sure I will never see it.

I also received a shipment that the post-office pretty much destroyed, but they never bothered to respond to that either. With the database shift, I missed out on a couple of shipments, but at this point I'm just "fuck it" since I didn't get charged.

Did you email or call? I have been noticing that after the move, calling gotten me further.

Yesterday was kind of a disappointment on the model front. I had the day off and I stayed home for most of it, because A) There was a ship (a Nebula) on eBay I was bidding on, and B) I'd already bought two other ships (Defiant and Equinox) and the tracking number on Canada Post said they supposed to arrive that day.

Unfortunately, the ships never showed up, and I was outbid at the last second (I'd actually won an action for a Stargazer with the same person and thought I could save a bit of money by having them combine shipping).

So, no ships for me. :(

Another interesting side-note. The online store apparently runs off a different database than local subscription outlets. It's almost like a completely different company now. So if you change your email in one place, it doesn't filter down any where else. You'll have to call the local/online stores separately. Kind of a pain in the ass, but not entirely unusual for small decentralized, yet loosely tied companies.

US Subscribers are now based here in the US. The online store and Canadian Subscribers are based in the UK. I even found out that my subscriber number changed when they moved operations.

Just got my Voyager plaque, but the invoice says that the ISS Enterprise is on back-order. Again. :weep:

I just got off the phone with them. The ISS Enterprises are being shipped off now. I am in the US, but YMMV.

^^^ Well that's good news at least! Hopefully we'll be getting them within a couple days then - and hopefully before Snowmageddon Phase I hits us on Friday.

And also got a return email from them saying that we should have the Kelvin by January 29.

Well, I finally got my Defiant and Equinox yesterday. They actually delivered the package on Monday, but since no one was home to accept it, that meant I had to wait an extra day and then go to the post office to pick it up on my way home from work.

I'm really happy with both of them. I've seen some people complain online that the arrowhead/pennant on one of the Defiant's nacelles is pointing the wrong way (perhaps a case of using the same decals), but mine doesn't seem to have that problem (maybe mine was a later make). Are other people's the right way or the wrong way?

I have versions of both ships made by other companies (Defiant as a Micro Machine and both Defiant and Equinox by Furuta) so I was interested to compare the two. The Eaglemoss Defiant is MUCH better than the Furuta one. The angles on the Furuta one are a bit too straight, instead of diagonal (hard to describe without showing them).

I also noticed the nose of the Eaglemoss Defiant is actually connected to the rest of the ship by just a small piece, as opposed to fully integrated, as it is on the less expensive models. It's more accurate, but I suppose I'll have to be careful with this one. (Ironic that the "tough little ship" would be one of the more fragile-looking ones  ).

Furuta did a much better job on the Equinox (apart from the surface detail on the sides of the secondary hull being PAINTED ON), so I was curious about this one. On the Eagelmoss one, the nacelles are a bit shorter and wider. That and the nacelle struts being noticeably thinner create the illusion of a ship that's a bit fatter and stubbier I expected when you look at it from straight on or from underneath. I assume the dimensions of Eaglemoss one are closer to the original though.

As I said, I'm really happy with both. I also ordered the Stargazer, but I don't expect that for several weeks and a local store was going to special order the Norway class for me, but they don't expect that till the end of February. It'll be interesting to see how they look.

Speaking of Defiant, I just saw that the Defiant dedication plaque is available on the online store, and at a bit of a discount. Just placed my order for it last night. In fact, a lot of things are listed at discount prices right now if you want to get some one-off's.

I'm guessing that doesn't apply to Canadians. : /

Don't see why not - it's their online store, not the local subscription house. Different group. The only thing I could see preventing you from getting it would be a DNS block on Canadian IP addresses.

I don't think it's a question of not being able to access the site, so much as Canadians not being eligible for the discounts or them not shipping to a Canadian address.

Gotcha. Well, as one of my old mentors told me many years ago, "You'll never get it if you never ask for it. The worst they can say is 'No', and the alternative to that may resemble exactly what you want". :)

Edit. Y'know, now that I look back at that, that's some seriously wise stuff right there. I think I'm going to add it to my sig line! :D

Maybe I could ask if they are ever going to stock the English Eaglemoss online retail store as well as they stock the US one...little chance of that. They just don't seem to be bothered...

^ Same here, very nice detail on it. Is that every ship from First Contact done? That's 7 now.

edit- ..oh yeah there's the T'Plana Hath Vulcan ship at the end if they ever do that.

What do you mean by "the US one"? The online store is the same for the US as the UK (what think you mean by "English"). The subscribers have there own call center that is based in the US and is separate from the online store. As a subscriber, if i order something online, I have to call the UK number for help with the order, not the US subscriber line. With that said. I do think they all ship out of the same warehouse in PA. Also keep in mind that the UK is ahead on their releases.

Yeah, I should have said UK instead of English... If you scroll to the bottom of the this page - what I order from, and what I refer to as the UK store - you'll find two flags, one each for the US and Australia. Clicking on either of those takes you to the store for that country, and there you can compare against the UK store I order from (the Australian store looks rather wanting of stock). There are definitely separate stores if that is anything to go by (unless this is like the Dauntless...). I've no idea where the ships for each of those stores ship out, but I wouldn't say it's the same warehouse - I don't think the standard/express deliveries £2.95/£5.95 would cover shipping from the US to the UK (if it does, that's value for money!).

I'm not a subscriber, I only buy specific issues, and I always get the newer ones from Forbidden Planet. Here in the UK, getting the older issues from the Eaglemoss website is a big stumbling block, especially the Enterprise E, Defiant and Equinox as well as the Dominion Warship and the Andorian Battlecruiser (I avoid eBay because the prices inevitably jump up during the last minute bidding wars - I got lucky with my NX-01 as only one other person was bidding). It just looks so silly that the US store that I am led to when I click on the US flag is so well stocked compared to the UK and Australian stores - surely all the stores can be that well stocked, these are the same ships and magazines after all.

Heh, of course I forgot to check this thread yesterday and the ISS Enterprise is out of stock now that there's a sale.

Now that I have decided I'd like to get DS9, the UK store only has the sale on the shuttles, the two special sets of ships and the plaques. Darn it! Well, I presume Easter is the next time they'll have a major sale on all their products, so I'm willing to wait. Knowing my luck it'll be out of stock that weekend...

I would like to ask what other people think of the DS9 and Voyager models in particular - the Trek Collective review had some bad things to say about DS9, especially with problems with the model (but then they aren't just reviewing the issue, they are reviewing a specific instance of the model as well), and from what I've heard and seen about Voyager, it's not the best model by far. However, it'd feel wrong not having those two models in a collection. I'm focusing on Federation vessels - I am thinking of going for DS9 because when I get the Defiant, it'll just feel wrong not having the station itself aswell.

I have no problems with either models and was perfectly happy with them when I brought them way back when.

The only issue I had with DS9 was the lower plyons looked like the where bent inwards.

As I have 3 DS9s, I think it was a design choice.

Voyager was a slight disappointment. Not as bad as 1701 refit.

You should definitely ask around any comic or collectible stores in your area, but, in all honesty, eBay is probably your best bet for some of the older models. I actually got most of the ships you mentioned off of there. Sometimes the price isn't too bad if the seller multiple copies of the same item (in which case, you don't have to worry about the price going up).

Also, most dealers will combine shipping if you buy more than one thing from them at the same time (best to contact them and ask first) which can help cut down the cost.

Admittedly, I don't have either one, but from what I've seen, Voyager's not their best work. The lack of moving nacelles doesn't bother me but the incorrect font for the registry really does and the painfully obvious seam line along the side doesn't look great either.

Frankly, I think Johnny Lightning did a much better job on this one, though, to be fair, Eaglemoss did a far better job on the non-refit Constitution than JL did.
