Contest: VOTE Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Forum Motto

Hey everyone!

I think we can all agree that we got off the wrong foot a bit with the original forum motto (see here). As a way to smooth things over and get everyone on board with it, Antony and I agreed that it would be nice to ask the community for what the motto should be. So this thread is to collect your ideas for the motto and then we’ll have a vote to see which one is the most popular one.

Traditionally Trek BBS forum mottos have always been a bit tongue-in-cheek or humorous. So the SFA motto might be something along those lines. But it could of course also be something more matter-of-factly. The current “Ex astris scientia ad infinitum” is just a placeholder, but of course it can also be one of the candidates. We’ll accept submissions for a week or so and then have a vote.

So let’s hear your best ideas! And have some fun!

This one sounds good. The re-birth of Starfleet.
I think the Phoenix symbol encapsulates the re-birth.

Perhaps because they are new, raw recruits
Per Aspera Ad Astra (“to the stars through difficulties”) might be more appropriate.

I actually wouldn't mind the ad nauseum option mentioned in the old thread, because while it is a little biting, it feels gentle to me as a jab. It works along the lines of my sense of humor where you can mock that which you love as being imperfect, and as the 12th Star Trek series, it can feel like it just goes on and on. (930ish episodes and 13 movies). The infinitum is fine, I guess. Same idea but too gentle. Shrug.

Above, I really do like "because it's a school..." and the "Flying first class" made me laugh out loud as a fantastically groan-worthy pun.

Just a guess, but a change in the motto from what Starfleet Academy is currently (Ex astris scientia ad infinitum) to (because it's a school), because Starfleet Academy is a school.

I admit that one left me puzzled for a moment as well. Then I realized it‘s from the trailer. It‘s what Captain Ake says to Caleb towards the end of the trailer after he says: “Why does everything have to be a full-on lesson in this place?”

Come to think of it, what Caleb says could also be a funny forum motto.

I’m open to include basically everything in the upcoming poll, but with these suggestions I gotta wonder what exactly the significance to Starfleet Academy is. Could you enlighten us?
