Star Trek, slightly bent...

It's been quite awhile since I posted these, but given the approaching holidays I felt I'd share these once again for those who might have never seen them.

TOS always had a sense of humour, usually contextual and lowkey and occasionally more broad. But here are some images I worked up several years ago taking a fun "what if" look at TOS scenes we never saw.

"I Have to make a decision? What kind of holodeck program is this?"

"Is your blood acid like mine, human? I'm going to find out."

Kirk: "These functions can be a pain, Spock. Who is getting married again?"
Spock: "All of them, Captain. To each other."

Pike: "So you're my new Yeoman? Well, I'm sure we can find a position for you."

Bored with desk bound duty Kirk decides to buy a car.

This really explains Christopher's WTF(!) expression.

McCoy: "Dammit, there's nothing worth watching anymore."
Kirk: "Shut up, Bones. I haven't seen some of these."

Rand: "Spock, can you bang out Jingle Bells on that thing?"

I got to say, at first I rolled my eyes but they're pretty good. Thanks for sharing.

The Picard one is eerie.

Had to remove the one with the bare butt. That's a no-no on here due to Google's rules. Be careful what you post when it comes to pictures please.

You're kidding. That pic has been posted here before numerous times without comment of any sort.

But that was before Google gave this site an ultimatum to "clean up its act".

I can only assume you didn't read the various threads that erupted over the issue several weeks ago. It was a very recent thing.

So, while that image was considered acceptable before this debacle, it is no longer the case. Others can provide the details if they wish.

Sincerely,

Bill

Thanks for those, Warped9. I enjoyed that.
I must have missed the whole Google thread, though. I had no idea.

I definitely missed something.

This isn't a porn site and a blatantly pornographic image is certainly not something I would post. And considering the tone of language and what one can read around here I'm confused as to how Google can tell you what you can and cannot have on your site.

It has to do something with an advertisement tool Google owns and is in use at this portal. The current theory is that people or groups of "influence" retrieved images they considered objectionable from this site while running web searches. Google contacted this site's management and threatened to "pull" that ad revenue tool unless the TrekBBS site "cleaned up its act" (my paraphrasing). Supposedly, without that tool, a lot of the side and banner ads displayed here woud disappear. I know a lot of members would like that, but without those ads in place, the influx of funds to pay for the considerable bandwidth would "dry up" resulting in the possible closure of this site.

I'm amazed you didn't stumble across at least one thread because there was a considerable "squawk" about the stricter rules in several of the sub-forums. The fan fiction section was requested to tone down the language. Other sections were cautioned about the images displayed. Adding to the issue, the phrasing is ambiguous and rather open ended, stated in such a way that even some of the outfits presented on classic Trek nearly 50 years ago on broadcast television are now a "dubious grey area". Yes, Google could potentially object to Droxine in "The Cliud Minders" or Uhura in "Mirror, Mirror".

Frustrating? Yes, T'Bonz espressed her dissatisfaction with the draconian policy, but being a mod', she'll have to grudgingly enforce it until "things cool down".

Sincerely,

Bill

Ah, so someone(s) squawked, "I have a right not to be offended by something I might not even have anything to do with." and Google caved or was pressured to cave and in extent elected to threaten the TBBS as well as others.

When what should have happened was the complainers should have been rightfully told, "No, there is no such right as to not be offended. And if something does offend you then don't go there."

I'm amazed, too. I'm blaming my advancing age and deteriorating eyesight.

Post the events in "Assignment: Earth" Maxwell Smart turns out to be one of Gary Seven's fellow agents assigned to help him...much to Seven's despair.

Smart elects to operate Seven's transporter, but bungles it wherein he and Seven finds themselves materialed...in Stalag 13.

You're kidding. That pic has been posted here before numerous times without comment of any sort.

I wish I was. We have to be super careful nowadays.

But that was before Google gave this site an ultimatum to "clean up its act".

This. We were damned near shut down. They control the ads (and thus the revenue) and he who has the gold makes the rules.

I don't like the new rules (and I'm a bit on the prudish side when it comes to skin and they're MUCH WORSE than I am that way) and of course the owner, being European, is even more liberal in that regard but this is the new reality.

And here we hoped that society was progressing rather regressing.

Well, some of us in America - at least some of us dark-chocolate-skinned folks - believe that things are regressing given current events. However...doesn't keep us of all colors and backgrounds from speaking out against the more questionable things.

In regards to realizing there is an owner of the site and Google's involvement: interesting. :vulcan:
