Star Trek Simming

Kayla1708

Newbie
I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of simming or has but hasn't been able to find any sims. If you don't even know what it is i am willing to explain if you wanna know.

If you can find a good one, a Star Trek Sim can be a very enjoyable experience. I made some good friends over the years that i simmed. There are quite a few large organisations about (at least there were last time i looked) but i always found the most enjoyable ones to be the independent ones.

I've been simming for over 10 years now and just came out of a brief retirement. Are there any other simmers on the BBS?

I used to simm with Samuel Parent, back when there was "Star Trek: Ares Expanse", with Mr. Parent's own "Lykara Shipyards" at Geocities, before Paramount-Viacom went on that big campaign to wipe simms and amateur 'Trek'-based fan fiction from the internet before "Fair Use" policies came into popular use.

There are a few on the board, but not many. Eight years ago or so we had our own TrekBBS fleet - but it didn't last long. The last survivor of it is located in my signature (and it has openings but this isn't the thread for recruitment).

I used to do chat-room sims back in the early days of AOL and Prodigy. I never did get into email sims though.

I'm a big chatroom/live action simmer. Thinking of starting one up myself. I need like.. people though. Hahaha.

^ Good luck to you. I've noticed over the last two years or so that Trek Simming has been dying to an extent. Too many captains not enough players.

I'll join a chatroom crew... I don't have time to be a captain, but I wouldn't mind taking on a Trek based website project. :p

<NAV>=/\=<CO> Permission to come aboard?

Kayla1708 & NX1701G:

I'm bored enough lately that I'd ~love~ to help you set up another TrekBBS simm fleet, with sub-groups for "Civilian / Starfleet Transport Command", et al.

Yeah sure. My info's right over here, so yeah. Add my AiM if you wish.

I used to be pretty big into the old PBeM simming, though it really seems to have died over the past few years. I'd be interested in getting back into it though....

I'm currently loving my time in alt.starfleet.rpg's universe.
Have four characters on four ships, and I really can't go without it (especially since relocating to the UK thus losing my usualy RPG buddies :P). It's full of great writers and a very nice place to be.
I'm also on other minor SIMs around, all PBeM kind, and I put my effort in keeping it alive as much as I can ;)

There are still groups out there that are still siming in Forums, Chat Based, IRC and even Yahoo Groups. Now there has been a stable decrease but I know of two fleets that are still thriving even with the set back. So yes there are groups out there.

I've often considered joining an email-based sim, but all the games I've seen are either (a) dead, (b) so big that it's impossible to keep up with, or (c) too combat-oriented. I'd prefer a smaller sim with no more than 20 characters.

(a) that is to avoid... if a SIM really seems dead, it probably is, and frankly as sad as it is, should be avoided,
(b) that's not really an issue... the fitting curve it's steeper for bigger groups/SIMs, but usually than the reward is a little bigger in the end. They're generally also more stable, as they can relay on more posting players,
(c) that's not really an issue, as I see it. If a SIM is well designed, it should be auto-balancing... if it's just fight (or just technobabble, or just character developement) than it is simply not really worth it.

I don't feel like "spamming" for ASR at all, but take a read at the wiki page I've linked in my post if you're interested... before joining I followed the posting of some of the ships (there are 3 fleets, with about 5-6 RP ships each) for quite a time on the relative Yahoo! pages: it's a good way to get an idea, and also quite an entertaining reading ;)

cheers!
