^ I suppose I should elaborate.

I don't think every movie over and over and over again needs to be dedicated to Roddenberry or anyone else.
But this movie is specifically the beginning of a new chapter in the Trek universe, and one which is going back to the original characters and, by extension, the original series. It's one where the torch is being passed, and which they are hoping will bring a whole new generation of reinvigorated Trek.
That, to me, is an extremely appropriate time -- perhaps the most appropriate time you will ever have -- to acknowledge and respect those who have come before who have made Trek successful and popular. Not just one, but all of them.
Now, in terms of specifics, I think if you're going to do that, you have to acknowledge Gene Roddenberry even though he's been acknowledged before. I also think it's fitting and appropriate to mention DeForest Kelley and James Doohan, both of whom are members of the original cast who have died and who have never had a dedication in a subsqeuent Trek production. And perhaps if you're going to single out three or four, also include Gene L. Coon, who was absolutely instrumental -- possibly more instrumental than any other -- to the success of TOS.
Beyond that, I think you also need a blanket statement acknoweldging all the men and women who have been a part of Trek over the years and who have carried on the legacy.
And for all of that, we're talking about one title card. A few seconds of screentime before the film starts. Nothing that affects the story of the new film in any way. No baggage to be dealt with by the filmmakers, no fandom warfare, nothing that's going to hamper the film in any way. Just a simple gesture of respect for all the great Trek personnell who have come and gone.
