"Star Trek" should be dedicated to Kelley and Doohan

Superman

Fleet Captain
What say you, fellow Trek fans?

Just a simple "dedicated with much love to the memories of DeForrest Kelly and James Doohan."

Frankly, I'd like a memorial segment of the closing credits, dedicating the film to all TOS cast and crew who are no longer with us, along with their names. Granted, as principles De and Jimmy should top the list, followed by both Genes, and be in a more prominent font.

This would be mandatory for Abrams to have memorial segment of the closing credits, dedicating the film to DeForrest Kelly, James Doohan and Gene.

Dedication : For Gene, De, James and everyone else who's Trekked to the great beyond

Something like that ?

"BOTH Genes..."

Thank you. I'm soooo tired of Gene Coon, who was (IMHO) MORE significant in making Star Trek a GOOD show than Roddenberry was, getting the short shrift.

Yeah, unless he's looking down on us all now, it won't have an impact on HIM... but c'mon, he's the guy who made Trek worth watching! I'd LOVE to see him finally get the credit he deserves, and which Gene R managed to deny him even in his death!

Agreed with everyone on all points!

I wonder who will be the first to say this idea will "mire Trek in the past" or something asinine like that.

It's not mandatory at all.

JJ Abrams should be allowed to make a Star Trek film free of the baggage of the old guard and its fractured fanbase.

The fact Star Trek continues to survive is a fitting enough tribute. An onscreen caption usually occurs within a year of a death. So perhaps background characters in the film called Jeffries, Doohan, Kelley and so on? Or the usual tribute like an intercom voice paging them?

If they don't, it doesn't exactly mean the production team are being dishonorable. I mean if God forbid, Adam West or Jack Nicholson keeled over tomorrow, would you want a dedication to them before the credits of The Dark Knight? The show must go on.

"Mandatory" is an inappropriate word.

I'm sure all that people are saying is that a decication would be nice.

I think that Gene Roddenberry's dedication of ST6 would count as enough, but maybe a dedication in more general terms, or one for James Doohan and De Forest Kelley would be nice.

A dedication is not baggage, and has nothing to do with fanbase arguments.

So after Roddenberry died, they dedicated the next movie -- Star Trek VI -- to him. You want to do it again five movies later?

I think a dedication to those fine actors would be a very nice and fitting thing to do. The characters they prtrayed (quite well I might add) were both cornerstones of Trek's success over the last 4 decades.

A dedication in the closing credits would be nice, wouldn't it?

But not in the opening credits.
