Star Trek: Short Treks

geCqHMH.jpg

She REALLY looks like a typical Berman/Braga-era Trek alien.

Runaway looks interesting, nice to see some alien shenanigans. Also what is up with weird gunk landing on Tilly's shoulders? First a mycelial spore and then a drop of Alien goop.
Salsa from her burritos. If only she'd listened to Burnham.

I already thought that was a given?
That it wasn't going to be aired outside of the US? I think it was confirmed that it wouldn't be on Netflix UK, but that still leaves lots of other places with netflix and of course Canada where Discovery aired on Space Channel.

So people who continue to pay for a service (and essentially fund Star Trek for everyone else) get something extra?
that's a nice way to look at it. but it's also alienating to people who want to watch this stuff but can't.

alienating people who have no bearing on a franchise's success does not matter one way or another. We're not talking about a trip to Tiffany's here for a new Patek Phillipe. how alienated can you be for $5?

i don't think discovery's viewership is gauged solely in subscribers to CBS all access. i'm sure space network's ratings and netflix viewers are considered -- they're just not paying directly for the content.

The fact the alien isn't covered in molded plastic all over her face means they proably needed the alien to emote human emotions so I am guessing this will be more of a character piece than a elaborate action story.

Netflix literally paid for DSC's first season in full with their licensing deal. My subscription did help fund this show, and I still don't get to see the extra content.

On this point, I'm 100% in the 'idiotic mismanagement' camp.

Trailer for Runaway is online
with a first look at a different type of Klingon.

Can't wait to see this!

EDIT: This doesn't apply to me, since I'm in New England, but I thought CBS All Access was available outside of the US and that you just had to have CBSAA to view it here. So, theoretically, wouldn't someone who doesn't live in the US be able to view CBSAA?

And why would they limit the shorts to the US? Doesn't seem very Federation-like to exclude the rest of the world.

CBSAA is currently US only. Supposedly they have expansion plans, though I forget what kind of timetable they were talking about and which countries they were considering.

If I had my druthers, regionalism would be done away with completely. Especially online. "World wide" should be put into the World Wide Web.

Late to this party, but here's my thoughts on this. It is both:

A cynical cash-grab to get people to subscribe in off months between DSC seasons.

A cool concept and I look forward to watching them..........all at once before the DSC season proper airs.

I can see Netflix getting them eventually outside of the USA.
They will probably be combined into one, hour long vid.
