Saru, Stamets, Culber and Detmer do.

And Season 3 still had a previously unknown relatives in Jack, a criminal, and a mystery box that needs to be understood at the end of the season to save the Federation.
I'll give you that Saru and Stamets have storylines. But after season 2 and 3 (where Stamets goes from being a arrogant prick to an arrogant person with redeemable qualities and Saru goes through an exploration of his identity as a Kelpian) who and what those character are is who they are to the end of the series. Same goes for Culber. After he comes back from the dead, Culber is that person. There's story about his relationship with Paul, but, once Culber goes through the Chief O'Brien all-good therapy that makes him ok for the next episode, Culber is the same person. For the most part, after a certain point, there's not an epiphany, moment of trauma, or revelation where these character grow or fundamentally change as people because of developments within a story

As for Detmer (and if we wanna throw in Owo) .. absolutely not. Who that character is when we meet her in episode 1 is who she is in the final episode.

I would argue that from season 3 on it's mostly the Michael and Book show.
Heck, it's Saru that saves the galaxy in DSC Season 3. Michael does some stuff too, but not as important as Saru.
That, in and of itselfy, opens a whole other can of worms as whether the resolution and explanation for "The Burn" was good writing and a satisfying conclusion. To me, it was indicative of how the Discovery writers could never allow a story to be about weird alien shit, and we learn something about the characters in how they react to the dilemmas those problems create.

Discovery, on the other hand, always had to devolve any mystery into a personal connection affecting the main characters. The leader of the Terran Emprier is Georgiou, the Red Angel is Michael and her mother, the source of The Burn is a Kelpian child that Saru has to connect with emotioanally, etc. And you see that in Section 31 where it just can't be a plot by the Terran Empire. It has to connect to Georgiou's family and child' crush.

I'd argue that Culber changed quite a bit over the course of the series, especially with his spiritual awakening in season 5.
If it worked for others, great. But to me all of that was connected to and just an extension of what we already got when Culber was guiding the Paul through the Mycelial Network.

I think that's true for Owo, but definitely not Detmer. She went through a few different phases, notably her anxiety after arriving in the future. We first see her on the Shenzhou but we don't really get that much of her there, but she's definitely not the same character she was when we first saw on the Discovery giving Michael death glares.

Agree to disagree. Because I saw a lot more from each than they ever get credit for and blame all on Michael.

For a movie getting such a lambasting, it's still delivering on many levels. There were some good people involved in this project. I don't think I've ever seen a TOS phaser in the Kurtzman era, for example, save Jack's hybrid weapon.
There was a TOS Phaser in Confederation Picard's collection in PIC S2

His "spiritual awakening" took forever. As a chief medical officer he was terrible. He was so self absorbed with himself that his medical duties came second.

I guess that makes it realistic then, because I hate to say it but I've had the misfortune of seeing more than one doctor like this. Not naming names of course (one of them actually treated Sylvester Stallone and had a photo of him and Stallone in the office--didn't make up for him completely missing my small nerve neuropathy)

The first two seasons looked really bad because they looked nothing like star trek. They even used a redressed discovery bridge for rikers ship. Yuck. Season 2 for a brief time brought back a traditional tng style bridge but updated and season 3 really showcased it. The lcars looked great. Yeah they needed better lighting. They need to fire the lighting person to be honest. Season three also brought back the D and her brightly lit bridge. So im not going to complain about season 3.
I have to disagree, while they were new designs I thought there were still plenty of recognizable Star Trek elements for the to feel like they were part of the same universe as the rest of the franchise.
Yeah. The lightning guy was probably bummed that he was forced to use so much light on the D bridge. The look of TNG had a warm brightly lit look on the bridge. It contrasted nicely with the pitch black of space. A nice warm comforting place to work while traveling in the cold dark of space.
Yeah, I really don't understand the people making modern shows' ,not just Star Trek, obsession with constantly making things so dark all the time. I'm the kind of person who prefers things to be bright and colorful, so this really drives me crazy.
I wasn’t really one of those fans that got upset over Icheb’s death because I never cared for him and frankly always resented his presence in VOY. However, I thought they did Shelby dirty in S3, but was surprised to not see much outrage over her treatment by those who screamed about the first two seasons. I guess the reunion was really enough!
Of the big deaths in Picard the one that really disappointed me was Ro's, I would have much rather seen her get a chance to work with Picard and the rest of the Enterprise again.
I think my disappointment also comes from comparing it to where the novels took her, which I much preferred.

Another reason why Lower Decks is the best of the modern shows!

It's my second favorite behind Strange New Worlds, which also mostly has a fair amount of light and color to it, though it still gets dark on occasion.

STD was so bad I can barley remember most episodes. It was a joyless show to be honest. All the crying, muted color and no lighting on the ship. Yuck.
I gotta movie for you. Muted color and "no lighting"
