The more I looked at this, the more I realize it looked very familiar. It's a Xindi Reptilian Female!

And a Vaadwaur.

I love these

A series seems fairly likely at this point
lol no. Not with the terrible reception it's getting. Even reviewers that are usually very positive with Post-2009 trek are slamming on it hard.

The scores in this thread's poll alone are some of the lowest any Trek has gotten in the last 10 years.

Speaking of issues with the script: So what’s people preferred headcanon explanation for San’s age discrepancy? I like to assume that there was something about this in an earlier version of the script, but what could it have been? Cryo-sleep, traversing the universes also brought him forward in time, plastic surgery, good genes?
I think the answer offered upthread of the portal being connected to the two universes at two different points in time is probably the best one.

The real world answer for San's age seems to be that whatever this was supposed to be when it was a 10-episode series was probably set around the same time as Discovery seasons 1 and 2. People have come up with the year 2324 by subtracting Section 31's stardate 1292.4 from TNG's stardates.

But Discovery has stardates in the 1000s too (episode 1 of Discovery, "The Vulcan Hello," occurs on 1207.3, which Michael states to be Sunday May 11, 2256). That goes with the idea that Alok was originally Ash Tyler, and Rachel Garrett was either not in this or some other character entirely. It wouldn't surprise me if the Garrett role was originally supposed to be the Deltan that got killed early, since it seemed odd to introduce a supporting character and kill her off not long after.

It wasn't subtracting, but by using one of the online calculators that we know the TV show writers use sometimes.

There's also a graphic in the movie mentioning an event that happened in 2314, so the movie woudl need to be after that.

Georgiou estimated that Alok was around 350 years old (some how). Being he's from the 20th Century still adds up to early 24th century. If we take the actor's age into account, that works to be 1974, which is exactly 350 years from 2324

I gave this aa 6 being as I fell asleep at one point, but even that was generous.

It didn't really feel like Star Trek, which is my takeaway. I know that the S31 I loved on DS9 may not have felt very Star Trek to some people, but at the least I was hoping that some similar themes with gray morality.

The story is all jumbled, probably because a season's worth of episodes has been crammed into 2 hours.

I was also having a hard time engaging with the characters too.

Thank you! I was concentrating more on hoping the movie would get better instead of focusing on some of the dialogue.

I don't buy it, but at least it was explained.
I tried not to focus on the dialogue much because so much of it was just so bad.

"You're a bad bitch."

"Chaos is my friend with benefits."

And don't get me started on the 'godsend' banter...

(shakes head) Just terrible.

Wait, was it "Godsend" or "God's End"?

(kidding - just trying to get your head to hurt more!)

Because I think the original idea for the show was that Georgiou was sent back to the DSC era, since not only would San be the correct age, but Georgiou would as well. Everyone is pointing out San’s age discrepancy, but no one (either fans or the characters themselves) are pointing out that Georgiou should be older as well as far as the other characters are concerned (the Section 31 briefing did not say that Georgiou traveled back from the 32nd century, only that she fell off their radar in the 2250’s. If it’s now 2324, in their minds Georgiou should have looked 70-something years older. Yet nobody mentions this.) But for some reason yet unknown to me, they added the Garrett character and moved the time period to 2324 despite Garrett really just being a generic Starfleet officer and nothing about the movie really gives any indication of the period other than the stardate.

I could come up with some mental gymnastics on how it isn't a surprise Georgiou doesn't look older. But I can't even bother myself to try.

Why?

Because even with bad episodes or movies, I have been able to find enough material or something for me to WANT to try to solve whatever issue is there.

But SECTION 31 was so bad that I just can't bring myself to do it. (And to be honest, there's not enough material to even help itself out.)

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I should have given this a 2 instead of a 3. But it's just so damn difficult to not give a 3 minimum because of Michelle Yeoh.

I think I spotted a Cardassian tending bar, but I'm not sure. the Paramount+ website quality is shit

It's definitely in the 24th century, since Garrett's age wouldn't make sense in "Yesterday's Enterprise" any other way.

I believe those calculators that are giving the 2324 date based on TNG's stardates and the general rule in the Berman era that 1,000 units of stardate equals 1 year.

"Encounter at Farpoint" takes place between stardates 41153.7 and 41174.2, with the calendar year being 2364. If you do the difference between 1292.4 and 41153.7 using the rule of 1,000 units equaling around 1 year, you get roughly 40 years in the past from season 1 of TNG.

Like a lot of things with the Paramount+ era, the depiction is contradictory and muddled.
Not really. Just as with the series that came before, a little creative thinking tends to make it all work out.
No it doesn't, at least not the exterior. Some of the bridge sets yes.
Agreed. The exterior of the Refit holds together pretty well in the modern era. I'd go so far as to consider it timeless.

The interior could be modernized with nothing more than some updated visuals on the computer consoles.

The ST5 and 6 Bridges IMO hold up surprisingly well, just replace the CRTs with flat screens.

Wasn't the stardate 1292.4 for when Georgiou was younger? Which to me still doesn't make sense (apart from her being elevated to Emperor in a way that goes against what was known about the Mirror Universe - she should be assassinating the current Emperor). She was Emperor in the DSC timeframe (about 10 years before Kirk assumes command of the Enterprise, which would be about 1312.4, per "Where No Man Has Gone Before".)

You COULD say this is set in the 23rd century and match it to the Discovery and TOS 23rd century stardates IF you want to go with the idea that Rachel Garrett isn't native to the 24th century, just ignore any background images with a random 24th century date, and say Georgiou screwed up estimating Alok's age.

That maybe through some service in Starfleet or Section 31 she ends up in the 24th century through time travel and after getting there eventually ends up as the captain of the Enterprise-C.
