I have to disagree. I think the concept was hugely flawed as well. Based on concept art for the original idea for the show's season 1, they were still going to use the ideas for the Baraam and the Nanokins, so what we saw in this movie was probably not far off from what they would have given us had they created the Section 31 show rather than this after-the-fact film. So the show would probably have been just as bad as what we got.

Now, just my guesses here, but I think the only differences between the show and the movie would have been:

1. Carl's pronouncement that he sent Georgiou back to a time when the two universes were more aligned would have meant that he sent her back to the DSC time period. That way, San's age would have made more sense, because it didn't make any sense in this movie set in the 2320's.

2. There would have been no Rachel Garrett character, because she didn't exist yet in DSC.

3. The character of Alok would probably have been Ash Tyler.
 
All of that is supposition.

ETA-- and Barram had a lot of potential. We saw the ritzy glitzy end of it, but this is a place that has to have employees who have their own lives to live when they're not serving the ultra rich. I picture Barram as having a Lankhmar /Madripoor vibe with a dirty underbelly. Being outside of Federation space, and despite what Georgiou said about being a reputable establishment, such things are inevitable. You could probably do entire episodes set on the station.
 
Of course from Carl of Forever's perspective hadn't she already been sent back to the 2320s and done everything she 'needed' to do with her life as without that the present of the 32nd century wouldnt exist as it was...so he was sending her back to then because he already did.

How do paradoxes work for a being that doesn't experience the flow of time the same way? It's like the Prophets casually changing history when they sent the other Emissary back and everyone was just suddenly surprised by the changes and didn't have the previous history just overridden

Pulling random ideas out of one's ass is the start of the creative process. And the only "evidence" you had was circumstantial. You, in fact, know nothing about what kind of show we could have gotten. You're just letting your biases color your suppositions.

As I mentioned several times, it was my opinion based on the available evidence. And the concept artist for the aborted show posting his material for what could have been, is clearly not ‘circumstantial.’

Nope. Just because I didn’t like the premise doesn’t mean it couldn’t have been a stellar show/movie if it was done right. Clearly, it wasn’t.
 
You're the one that originally mentioned pulling ideas out of one's ass, then you said that that wasn't what you were talking about. Then you base your entire opinion on what the show might have been on a couple of pre-production drawings. Up thread, you said that you thought the very premise was flawed, then you say it could have been a stellar show. Make up your mind.

Everything you say comes down to the fact that you just didn't like the idea.
 
I said the the premise was flawed because the ‘circumstantial’ evidence showed that the show as originally envisioned wouldn’t have been much different from the movie we eventually got. They wasted the premise of Section 31 and instead focused too much on making it a vanity project for Yeoh where she just bands together with a bunch of Guardians of the Galaxy/Suicide Squad wannabes to punch and kick people around.

And honestly, my opinions are not worth anyone getting their knickers in a twist over, so I’m not sure why that’s happening with you.

If the DISCOVERY series finale was the length of S31 (95 vs 85 minutes), it would have received 301 million watch minutes. S31 is just over half that.

In comparison, to exceed the PICARD finale, it would have needed over 613 million watch minutes.

Considering this likely cost $40 to $80 million... a considerable size up from the standard $8 to 10 million per episode, this can only raise questions about the decisions that led here.

Effectively 1.8 million views on something that aimed to bring new people the franchise while accepting there'd be a degree of collateral damage among the existing fanbase.

That's significantly worse then I thought it would be...

I bet a bunch of people are in some really hot water right now, because there's absolutely no way that made even a third of the production cost back.

There's certainly some selective silence regarding this one going on. TrekMovie haven't come out with their usual ____ Star Trek project made the Nielsens headline. Maybe the spin talking points haven't been devised and disseminated yet.

Perhaps they don't feel the need to beat a dead horse, unlike some people. It's clear the film is a failure, nobody is saying otherwise. It happens. Best to move on rather than wallow in failure.
