The Way to Eden

The U.S.S. Enterprise is sent to retrieve the stolen ship Aurora, commandeered by the renegade Dr Sevrin, who is in search of the mythological planet, Eden. During the pursuit, the vessel is catastrophically crippled and Kirk must rescue its passengers, holding them aboard his ship in protective custody. But when Spock is able to deduce the exact location of Sevrin’s fabled paradise planet, the Doctor and his followers take over the Enterprise in hopes of fulfilling their quest.

We'll get to see a new Aurora. And it better be kickass, because I'll be turning off the show as soon as it blows up!

Without seeing any remastering I give this episode a D. Barely passing, but definitely not the worst.

C-.

But above average remastering. The new Aurora has a neat, sleek little design with interesting viewports or lights and the way the ship overheats and explodes with the rear impulse thruster and side nacelles sparking, glowing and then blowing was very nice. I also loved "Eden's" double moons and the new CGI matte of a Yosemite/Rockies-style mountain backdrop when Kirk and company beam down to find Sevrin.

Another in a series of awful epsiodes with some very good remasterings. Herbert

Interesting that: 1) Charles Napier wrote some (if not all) of the songs he sings here, and 2) his later career would later do a complete 180 and he'd start playing, well, 'Herberts'. Such as his DS9 character in "Little Green Men".

Heck, he was the head of "The Good Ol' Boys" band in the Blues Brothers movie! "You gonna look pretty damn funny tryin' to eat corn-on-the-cob with no FUCKING TEETH!" ;)

 Yeah, too bad this episode got made first, otherwise Sevrin could have come aboard accompanied by Tucker McElroy and a bunch of rednecks. :techman:

Severin should have worn his Nazi get-up from when he was Melakon a year or two before this episode. ;)

A C- episode..interesting concept ruined in execution..but the remaster gets an Excellent from me...

mostly due to the Aurora
Ep75_aurora.jpg

as someone on another board noticed..it looks like a Futuristic VW Microbus ..

D for the episode. One of the worst of any Trek series. Above average remastering. At least it had nice effects shots now.

Oh, come on! "Gonna crack my knuckles and jump for joy, got a clean bill of health from Doctor McCoy!"

I played that on my45 RPM record player over and over back in the day. ;)

F+ only because we got some satisfaction at the end when the annoying hippies died a painful death. Otherwise I'd rank it lower.

The Aurora looked good, but they didn't fix Kirk's "mirrored insignia".
You realize that's because they filmed Kirk's reactions facing the wrong way (breaking the Line) and flopped the shot to he'd be looking to screen right instead of screen left. If they flopped it back, he'd appear to be looking the wrong way and not at what was going on.

The only way to fix it, really, would've been to try to find a suitable shot from another episode and substitute it.

Or just digitally erase the chevron and paint it in on the other side of his tunic.
