I'd kinda hope it's the other way around. Maybe they are "lawless teens" due to something they did at the academy? (And to admit my bias, I'd be down for any excuse to skip the "How do we even run this ship?" stuff.

I can't wait to see what the USS Prodigy looks like.
It'd be funny if the fanfare for this series were the sound of a dial-up modem, but I doubt that's what they're going for.

Since Nickelodeon is also owned by Viacom there will likely be a streaming option. Though, I would be surprised if it wasn't available via All Access.
CBS AA is already adding some Nickelodeon shows (as well as other Viacom content) as part of its summer relaunch:
