"Star Trek Picard Is Not a Sequel to The Next Generation Says Producer"

I'm confused? Which show was this?

Voyager ***cough*** Seven of Nine ***cough***

In "Relativity", she shot a phaser out of a man's hand (They wouldn't even her let stun him! :wtf: )

It's not for nothing Seven's Collective is now dancing in the streets over the prospect of her killing someone in Picard (After all these years, she's FINALLY being allowed to be who she is -- a former soldier. She's being permitted to kill people unapologetically.)

Man's eighty years old, I think other folks will be doing the action now.
I don't mean he will do the stunts, but it will be quips of "I've missed this" during shoot outs, or Picard reminiscing about some of his more actiony missions. Basically as with Nemesis and First Contact, where Patrick Stewart expressed a desire to be more "Active"

I think Seven 'The Terminator' is very bad-ass :bolian::bolian:

Looking forward to her saying lines like "I'll be back" and "Hasta la vista, baby!!" before shooting an enemy :hugegrin::lol::lol:.

Why would people be happy about that? That was one of the charms of the character for me. If they change it, then it really isn't the Seven that we saw in Voyager. Though I wouldn't be dancing yet, those phasers may well be set on stun.

And she wasn't a soldier, she was a drone being controlled by force.

I can't promise an "Hasta la Vista" (she might be able to swing an "I'll be back", though).

It just galled me that she was held back (she did a two-step around the edge but never went over it -- even when common sense would've dictated otherwise).

If it galled me, it probably galled a lot of other people too.

Don't get me started on her abortive kinda-sorta "romance" with Chakotay ...

We'll see.

If nothing else, it's a step above shooting a phaser out of a man's hand. :techman:

And she wasn't a soldier, she was a drone being controlled by force.

She attacked and assimilated. To me, that made her a soldier. She's seen combat.

(In "Survival Instinct", she held a command position; she had some decision-making authority. In "Dark Frontier", she had the ear of the Borg Queen herself.)

With her abilities, she should be able to shoot a fly off the top of a barn from a mile away. Not seeing the issue with her shooting a phaser out of someone's hand?

Your mileage may vary.

Shooting a phaser out of a man's hand just seemed over the top and impractical. It's not something most people would think to do in a fight.

Shoot him, stun him ... but enough with the theatrics. Pick a lane! :shifty:

How did you end up a fan of the franchise? It all pretty much plays the same.

I started with TOS as a child. Then I grew up. If I am a fan of anything, today, its because it in some way appeals to who I am as an adult, not who i was as a child.

A memorable scene in Blakes Seven is when Avon shoots a blaster out of a man's hand and Blake compliments him on his aim. Avon confesses he was aiming at the man's head.

Not exactly. She shot the phaser out of his hand, and then shot him in the chest. As SF Debris would comment, "Oh for the love...even guns from the future of the future don't work!" A quip at the fact that shots in Star Trek are wildly inconsistent in their degree of harm.

Star Trek is not known for its consistent combat skills.

I have great expectations for this series.

But I'm also scared that people in charge will mess up the characters and the scenario from TNG.

Due to the fact how producers have managed to mess up both Star Trek and Star Wars in the incredible boring,doom-and-gloom 2010's with all that dreadful entertainment in that decade, I'm terribly scared that "Picard" will turn out to be the funeral for Star Trek and for everything which was so great in the 80's and 90's in Star Trek.

But I hope that this will be the turning point for Star Trek which has been on a downward spiral since the start of "Enterprise".

Well we know that Picard is no longer a captain, there's going to be no diplomatic missions or explorations of weird anomalies. If that is where your expectations lie you're probably going to be disappointed.

Other producers, who are not Michael Chabon, the showrunner of PIC, have rescued Star Trek and Star Wars from stasis and brought them back to life. Sometimes their work has been good, sometimes it's been bad, but that was true of both franchises in their past production cycles, too. Sorry, but a LOT of TNG episodes were crap, and Return of the Jedi's first act is just a giant waste of time.

Few things are as tiresome as someone living out the "Old Man Yells At Clouds" meme.

The funeral for everything that was great in 80s and 90s Star Trek was the DS9 series finale. VOY and ENT were mostly crap, but S4 of ENT was a strong improvement. Then the entire Berman-era died with ENT.

Listen, maybe you should consider actually watching the show with an open mind before writing it off as inferior to what came before?

But I hope that this will be the turning point for Star Trek which has been on a downward spiral since the start of "Enterprise".

I really don't know what to say to someone who thinks that a franchise coming back to multi-million-dollar life and gaining millions of new fans after being left for dead alongside basic-cable Syfy fare like Farscape and Stargate is "on a downward spiral." Yeah, Into Darkness had its problems, but, again, highs and lows in quality are nothing new for the franchise even in its 90s heyday. By any reasonable standard, this is a thriving new era for Star Trek -- five different television shows, all with different sub-genres being created, with amazing talents behind and in front of the cameras, to explore all sorts of new elements of the universe. And all this after no one thought Trek was gonna come back any time soon after ENT was cancelled.

The people in charge are Patrick Stewart, and people who grew up watching Star Trek and TNG. I wouldn't worry too much.
Considering it WAS because of Patrick Stewart we got this scene in ST:INS:

I think I’m the only person on the planet that likes that part of the movie. Or, the only one that will admit to liking it. :shifty:
