The "overgrown Boy Scout".
Little did he know...

What do you imagine Picard doing worse than Jack already having a criminal record at 21 and seemingly no degree higher than high school, I'm curious? The best-planned intentions of parents usually fall apart quickly in the face of real-world situations.
The good ones recognize this and pivot to accommodate new scenarios.
The bad ones stay the course, come hell or high water, whose egos refuse to admit their initial plan may have been in error and in need of course correction.
I'm not at all sure that Beverly was ever a good parent. I am 100% sure that Picard never would have been.
Beverly strikes me as a person highly committed to her values and ideals. At some point in time, she felt like those were at odds with Picard and his love of the stars, so she set a course to avoid that, and damn be the consequences. The best-planned intentions of parents usually fall apart quickly in the face of real-world situations.

I do wonder how Spot changed breeds and genders during TNG. Now we know, and we have an answer why Data shoved Crusher off the ship in Generations.I bet one time Beverly Crusher probably bullied a kitten. A really cute one as well. And everyone cried, but she didn't even care. She just used it as material for her hair metal band (as we remember she always did in TNG).
Star Trek: Picard just keeps answering those long simmering questions we had from three decades ago.I do wonder how Spot changed breeds and genders during TNG. Now we know, and we have an answer why Data shoved Crusher off the ship in Generations.![]()
Well, this is kind-of why I said I was not at all sure that Beverly wasn't a good parent. Jack's current state (at least, what we know of it so far) is a good indicator of that. What do you imagine Picard doing worse than Jack already having a criminal record at 21 and seemingly no degree higher than high school, I'm curious?
I think you forgot her response to that line, (and one of the best in the Star Trek franchise in my opinion):The "overgrown Boy Scout".Little did he know...
He had multiple chances and never took them. Even with Q's intervention with "Tapestry" he found that love was still out of reach because it ruined a friendship. So, Picard has had a lot of mixed messages over the years, even with the help of Q or other interventions.Honestly though, he admitted to having issues. He got over them (thanks to Q), but as he said, couldn't he have gotten the chance 20 years ago?
Oh, yes! I fully 100% agree Beverly should have at least presented him with the option. Robbing him of the opportunity to at least know his own son was a seriously dick move. While I understand why she thought it was a good idea from her own perception of reality, I completely disagree with her actually going through with it.Honestly though, he admitted to having issues. He got over them (thanks to Q), but as he said, couldn't he have gotten the chance 20 years ago?
I agree that Picard probably would've been that dad who's always at work, but keep in mind that a part of him, as revealed in the Nexus in Generations, DID want a family life. If Starfleet was his dream life completely, then the Nexus would've shown him a life as an Admiral, not the family life it did show.Well, this is kind-of why I said I was not at all sure that Beverly wasn't a good parent. Picard's handling of the E-D's children at "Picard Day" spoke volumes of his inability to handle kids. His early interactions with Wesley, the son of his dead best friend (despite Wesley's highly annoying tendencies), also left a lot to be desired. Beverly was right about one thing - he was married to the job. He never could have handled having offspring of his own and likely would have pushed Jack away much sooner, making matters even worse.
So why all the alias ?Only in extreme danger once Vadic and Co started chasing them.
Yep. Everything points to Jack being a con-man LONG before Vadic got involved. So why all the alias ?

Regardless of whether or not I agree with Beverly's decision, I find it understandable due to the pain she has experienced in the past.Yes but did Beverly know what he saw in the nexus and that he longed for a family? Maybe she only knew what he told her, which, according to this ep, was that he never ever wanted children. Being pregnant by someone who told you they don’t want children would be pretty upsetting.
Also, she didn’t mention it, but she already raised a kid who was traumatized by losing his dad to Starfleet the growing up without him. Maybe she thought it would be easier for Jack to just never have a father than to have one and lose him.
Don’t get me wrong, what she did was basically unforgivable and the dangerous lifestyle does not make her look good as being the “safe” parent, just throwing it out there.
