Usually the tricorder does whatever the plot needs ;). But whatever, this isn't some Victorian melodrama where one protagonist can really say "How am I to be assured that he is verily my own offspring?" The only justification may be some nebulous respect for privacy. But really, we're talking about a man wanted for multiple crimes whose existence is putting the lives of 500 people at risk.
In this case, if JLP is going to discover he has a kid w/ Beverly, he should get the DNA test validated by a independent 3rd party.

Obviously, he's going to trust Beverly, but "Trust & Verify".

We don't need another Jason Vigo incident.

or more likely, it was cheap as hell to license. lol
Most definitely this. Still, I think they could have found something better. I can't imagine it would have been too tough to get their hands on some Veruca Salt.

It still amazes me that they were ever able to use Space Oddity. I guess Iman is a true fan.

So, how can a private owned bounty hunter ship is way-way more powerful than one of Federation most sophisticated Starship?

Why not? There's no laws that civillian/privately owned ships need to suck that have ever been shown on screen and private individuals have been shown as happily trading weapons systems to the point of owning their own moons.

Very true, remember regular people who own their own space ships can own Photon Torpedoes of any yield they want.

That's basically more powerful than modern day H-Bombs.

So there really is no limit to what you can own.

Doesn't mean you get to bring your Photon Torpedo planet side or that your vessel isn't under constant monitor when you enter UFP or any other governmental territory.

If you pull any shenanigans, you're toast.

Ok episode, but this new Crusher is already grating on me in the same manner as the Raffi charactor, but Worf and Plummer saved the episode.

Just watched and for me the strong trend from last week continues. Vadic is a great, fun villain so far, even if the design of the Shrike is a little uninspiring. Her theatrics do recall similar stuff from Khan, but she make her own thing of it and as an actor, Plummer is clearly having a whale of a time.

I like Shaw, like, a lot. It's nice to see he had a reason for behaving as he did in the last episode beyond just being an asshole. 500 lives on an exploratory vessel facing an arsenal like that aboard the Shrike... the right thing to do is run... However his about-face at the end felt earned and I look forward to seeing more of him.

Jack is great too. Once more, the actor is clearly having fun just reigning the theatrics on the right side of things. Obvious of course that he is Picard's son, but sometimes when a breadcrumb trail is left as it has been then the obvious conclusion is satisfying. That is, if he really is Picard's son. Time will tell.

Only complaint (and it's a late complaint as the segments were few and far between) is all the stuff about Raffi and her various issues. As i said last week, nothing against Michelle Hurd. I've been a fan since way back (Law and Order then she did a stint on ER) but the character of Raffi is just grating. Shouting, crying, smashing things and hitting things and... that's really all she's been since Season 1 of this show. When her ex-husband pointed out what a selfish and obsessive shit she can be, I found myself agreeing with him.

Maybe the problem is she's being given nobody to bounce off. One whole scene in this episode was her shouting at a screen, hopefully pairing her with Worf will result in something more interesting. Honestly speaking though, of the characters introduced in PIC S1-2, Raffi would have been my last choice as a character to keep around.

The Next Generation: 10/10
Disengage: 8/10

Right. They wanted you to be able to get that Shinzon was a clone and made a continuity error of sorts due to thinking the audience couldn't possibly figure it out otherwise.

The mere fact that the "Tapestry" scenes are flashbacks is a ready-made excuse. Just say the flashbacks were inaccurate. In this case, NEM automatically takes precedence, because THOSE scenes are actual photographs of young Picard.

Easy peasy.

So I am a birder in real life. I haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if someone already mentioned this.

Shrikes are also called butcher birds. This is because they have a habit of taking prey (mice, large insects) and impaling them onto big thorns or barbed wire in order to save the food for later. (Kind of like a butcher hanging meat, hence the name.)

So if you were unfamiliar with what a shrike is, there you go.
