That android from the preview turns into...
It looks like the 'memory flash included both Ariam (from ST: D) and Data in there.
For me - I honestly gave it a 5.
I really disliked that Soji turned into a Deus Ex Machina during the episode. And to think Maddox just created a world of synths (or went there and revived them); that Soji (although somehow created with a positronic neuron from Data also somehow gained the personality and mannerisms of a Synth she never met, etc.
Also, just the fact that a Half-Vulcan/Half-Romulan mole could exist in Star Fleet for 30+ years, giving these typr of "Black Flag" orders; and no one else in the chain of command (including the current CINC); and Dr. Jurati's sudden ability to just ignore Oh's psychic block because she met Soji...
And IDK - but as much as I HATE the Utopian aspect ob TNG; Rios was just left to fend for himself after witnessing his Captain put a phaser to himself? WTF is up with Star Fleet medical? " Hey, we have a diagnosis for you...and you're out of Starfleet? What? You want/need psychiatric help? Well, maybe if you were in Star Fleet..." <--- That's how it seemed top come across.
(Well, at least Chabon didn't make Rios a synth as well - which is where I thought they were going to take this given Rios' initial reaction to Soji.)
And I feel sorry for Jeri Ryan - she did a marvelous job with some really bad material (although I did like her quandary of whether she should re assimilate the Borg in stasis or not. And sorry, but if she was in control of then cube; she could block/stop the alcove ejection sequence? I guess the Romulans had better control of the entire Cube than was intimated.
And its really a shame that after all the build up - the character of Elnor is relegated to being a token action figure, with no real development given for the actor to play beyond his backstory. He seems to just be there because Chabon what an occasional action sequence between all the various convoluted info dumps.
Also, it seems a lot of the growth and realization Picard came to about himself and his past will be buried into himself again, because hey, Picard was "right™" and we got another smug Picard speech (after the CINC at least got one: "Shit the fuck up..." before she admitted Picard was "right™" - and gave himself a resounding self validating table pound. HUBRIS RESTORED - (Which I'm sure made many a TNG fan ecstatic. I'm just not that much of a TNG/Picard fan myself.)
And I'm sorry but WHY again, did the EMH not at least appear to Rios sometime EARLIER and inform him of the actions Dr. Jurati took to kill Maddox (which she evidently never did try to erase/remove from the EMH's 'memory'. It only divulged what it knew AS SHE CONFESSED...
Anyone want to bet that at some point in these last two episodes; we'll also see a fully restored and functional Data at some point - but for 'reasons'; Data will have to remain on the planet or wherever this new fountain of Synth life/culture ends up so that the "Synth Horror™" that the Zhat Vash are afraid on never comes to pass..?
Yeah, a 5 is a gift to this episode, the more I think and write about it; but that rating stands for me.
