Star Trek Phases...

I was just thinking about how it seems like I go through phases when I do lots of re-watching of episodes, maybe buy a little bit of Trek memorabilia, frequent places such as this forum, sit around casually reading Memory Alpha, etc.... and then usually I go through moderately long periods of probably a few months where I don't think about Star Trek much at all; then after a while, something random reignites my interest or reminds me of Star Trek, and out comes the TOS or TNG episodes again for hours of back to back episode watching.

Do you go through "dry spells" when you don't give ST much thought? If so, what is it that usually "triggers" you to dive back in again?

I've been in one long thirty-five year phase with Trek. :D

Usually the only thing that dampens my Trek enthusiasm is the NFL season.

Yep, it's perfectly normal. Everybody has their own "saturation point" with a particular interest, with some exceptions never getting enough. I equate it to "vintage" music, songs created by a band long extinct. You love the band and the songs, but... after you've gotten your fill, you need a break. Then at some point down the road, you begin to miss it and come back. I certainly have this experience with "The Beatles". And the same is true for Star Trek. I'll take long breaks, not watch an episode or visit TrekBBS for many months... then later on, something awakens within. :) I can't finger it exactly. Maybe it's a reference to Star Trek in something I read, or a catch a glimpse of an episode on TV. The main thing is whether or not I'm at a point where I need to jump back in... because I know if I do, I'll be there for a while. ;)

Yeah, I've gone in and out of watching, mostly because of other stuff going on. Having watched one series I didn't see during the original run last year, and in the middle of doing it for another now, I'm definitely more engaged with Trek than I was four or five years ago.
