Seems the folks at P:II are busy bees. They've just released a sneak peek at "Kitumba":

This release comes on the heels of releasing another sneak peek at act one of "The Child." In case you missed it, here it is again:

Man, you guys just keep raising the bar! Well done all! I think everybody better have their hankies ready though...

Is it my monitor, or is the bridge really dark?
It's a stylistic choice, they say. I find it unattractive and murky. YMMV.

I see Andy Probert's K-Fighter in this...guess it's making its first appearance here instead of in Yorktown.

The jump-cut caused by the axial cut at 1:01 is very distracting. Hopefully it won't make the final edit (jump-cuts are no-nos).

P.S. A friend of mine just saw the alien ship in The Child and said "it looks like a Space Fleshlight".:guffaw:

I think the lighting looks just fine. Suits the mood of the episode.

The K-Fighter that appears in this episode looks a bit different from the one that appears in Yorktown. Andy has been working with us on the CGI model, so it will look as close to his original vision as possible.

Youtube says that the "Kitumba" video is private. :(
:wtf: Yep...same here...what gives!? :klingon:

I dunno. I'm subscribed to retroaccount, which is James Cawley/P:II's youtube channel, so it shows up fine for me.

I don't have a problem with a more "moody" (read: noir style) lighting. The problem is that it is too dark in blotches where it obscures the actors faces too much, particularly whenever Kirk and Spock are talking to one another at the science station.

It worked for me once last night, but now the "private" message is Trek-blocking me again.

Yes, the "sneak peak" was for a very brief time only. Sorry if you missed it!

It was a very rough edit done by one of the crew, not our pros, and neither the bright/dark setting on their computer, continuity, nor even following the script was particularly paid attention to...but James wanted to give people a taste of the episode despite those flaws.

Wait till you see the fixed edit... not to mention the final one!!

Actually, I was talking about the lighting on the bridge scene of "The Child," but I understand completely. Not sure I'd post an unfinished edit myself...

Ah, The Child's lighting on the bridge in the teaser.....

ahem, this is going to cause a lot of debate, but...

... the director asked for the lights to be dimmer than usual to indicate that it was the night shift.

People will agree or disagree with his choice, but it was a creative one rather than our lighting team's error.

Speaking of this, I heard that there is going to be a reshoot and recast for "Kitumba." Is that true? If so, what part is being recast and why? Why the reshoot?

Yet the bridge is still dark in act one as well. In act one, the actors' faces are often obscured in shadow whenever they talk near the science/library computer station, particularly Brandon Stacy (Spock) and Jonathan Zungre (Chekov). It was three days later (from the teaser) ... do those bridge scenes also take place during the night shift? Or is it the day shift?

However, the murkiness of the lighting also extends to the sickbay scenes as well, not just the bridge. Was this also a creative choice on Jon Povill's part?
