Ahhh, yes, that phenomenon when multiple people misremember a famous Vulcan's death. The M'Benga Effect, I believe it's called.T'Pau's death (in SW) was also reversed as a mere rumour in books set much later.

Swordhunt was similarly pre-TMP in its original form. However, an incomplete job was done with the edits to it and My Enemy, My Ally. The omnibus left in references to the TOS uniform colors, lines implying the Enterprise is pre-refit, and Chekov at the navigator's post. However, TWS and ME,MA are explicitly pre-TMP in the ranks of Sulu and Uhura (though they do promote Chekov to lieutenant). ME,MA and TRW were re-edited upon their re-release in The Bloodwing Voyages to conform them to a post-TMP setting.
Even if you were just trying to fit them in with just the canon, there's issues. Spock's World is explicitly post-TMP, but still has Chekov as the navigator. There's no real way to fit the Duane novels into the modern timeline, because it did not exist when they were written.

Post-TMP is probably the least bad fit for everything, though.
