Trek is probably doing better as it's already had its nadir of fan disparagement and discontent, few of even bashers say that the new stuff is really the worst

You don't go to the Discovery forum much, do you now... :p

Yeah, the hate for Discovery is pretty strong, at least as strong, if not stronger than Voyager and Enterprise.

"Better" is kind of vague. Do you mean which one people enjoy more, or which one we think is more successful financially or critically?

The Simpsons said, "50 million smokers can't be wrong". But unlike smoking, this is entertainment - art. I'll wander toward the critical reviews, not numbers.

Plus they're transforming Star Trek into a more actiony Star Wars type genre. Why would they be trying to copy Star Wars if it wasn't better?

Number of views = better just because there's a higher number?

Whatever happened to freedom of choice and diversity if they're all going to be the same thing?

And if either franchise had to resort to characters doing stripteases to bring in the numbers, they might do it. Who likes brainy stuff to begin with when sex does a better job of getting people to fawn over it? Especially if they have no other ideas to use?

"in recent years"
Fair enough.
I'm surprised to find Star Wars winning by a massive margin on Star Trek forum.

The fact that Trek has given us Beyond and Discovery (both of which are awesome in my opinion) and Wars has given us two absolute dog shit films in the form of TFA and TLJ (R1 was good though) makes it all that more surprising.
Because it is completely subjective. Clearly, not everyone thinks it is "dog shit."

But is it stronger than for Enterprise season 2 or Nemesis, let alone Enterprise season 2 plus Nemesis?

Personally, I don't think the hate for Discovery is close to that of the 2009 reboot movie. It was after that we lost all the... ummm... people more invested in the trivial minutiae of the Trekverse than real life, let's say (and no, I don't think the DSC minutiae threads are anywhere near as bad)

The Last Jedi is getting utterly hatespammed and I still have zero comprehension why. But I'm just a casual SW fan.

With the news that Quentin Tarantino is going to be doing a film I looked around the net and I keep seeing comments like "Great, I don't like Star Trek it sucks! Finally there will be something I can Like!"

Sure it may wind up as big as the Transformers or The Fast and the Furious, but, it will be like the Transformers or The Fast and the Furious, Not Star Trek.
I feel that's already happened with the last three movies - I'm quite happy for Tarantino to have a go.

To quote Monty Python - 'Worse - how can it be worse ?'.

It's all opinion - I'd certainly describe Beyond as 'DS' as I would The Force Awakens, but I love Discovery and The Last Jedi.

At least we agree on Rogue One.

Box office paints a different picture. You may not like them but a film that does over a billion dollars in just a few weeks is liked by someone.

Face it, Star Trek has NEVER matched Star Wars popularity with the mass audience. I love Trek too but facts are facts.

Yes, but America voted Trump and Britain voted for Brexit. How popular something is doesn't mean it's better. But unfortunately that's all that matters to a business.

Thing is that when I think of "Star Trek" I make a clear distinction in my mind between Prime and Kelvin universes. So when a question asks Star Wars vs Star Trek, I completely block out the Kelvin movies and just think of DSC and compare it with Star Wars. And I am sure that I am not the only one doing that.

Well if we're talking recent years, that's kind of the right thing to do lol.

Even with just Discovery Star Trek is leaps and bounds beyond Wars (IMO), of the last three movies only one is even watchable (R1).

Actually Hillary was the popular choice. The electoral college voted Trump in.

How popular something is doesn't mean it's better. But unfortunately that's all that matters to a business.

When a business is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to make and promote a product...yeah money matters.

Of-course it does, don't be condescending. I'll put my point another way:

If a company makes 2 products, a big steaming pile of shit that even fly's won't touch and a bar of pure gold with a side of diamonds and only the shit sells, they will keep making the shit and stop production of the gold.

Considering how expensive gold and diamonds are compared to shit..... that's quite a ROI. ;)

Far as quality goes, with the exception of STID I liked the Kelvin movies and can't wait for Discovery to come back. For Star Wars , loved Episode 7, liked Rogue One and felt indifferent towards Episode 8. Haven't caught the Kiddie Show on Disney and don't plan to.

You would think that, in terms of recent fan reaction, both franchises would be pretty similarly regarded given that Abrams and his crew made most of the recent products of both.
